Inside Line Promotions - BRANDON, S.D. (July 22, 2014) - Weather finally gave Big Game Motorsports driver Craig Dollansky a weekend to compete.
After losing five of the previous seven weeks to rain at Knoxville Raceway, the Big Game Treestands team tackled the half-mile oval last Saturday.
Dollansky qualified 22[sup]nd[/sup] quickest and he finished second in his heat race, which lined him up on the outside of the ninth row for the main event.
"Unfortunately we got in a hole in qualifying," he said. "We didn't really have the motor where we needed to, but we learned some things. Fortunately we were able to make some headway in the feature."
Dollansky rallied from 18[sup]th[/sup] to post a 10[sup]th[/sup]-place finish, which was the 14[sup]th[/sup] top 10 of the season for the Big Game Treestands team.
"Definitely missing all of those races wasn't something we wanted to see, but it's hard to control Mother Nature," he said. "Guy Forbrook has done a great job working with this team. That was our second night at Knoxville together. We've got some work to do, but Guy is working hard along with the rest of the crew."
The weather also held out for a UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions event on Sunday at Huset's Speedway.
After qualifying 11[sup]th[/sup] quickest and finishing second in both his heat race and the dash, Dollansky lined up on the outside of the front row for the main event.
"On the first start we were able to get the lead coming out of turn two," he said. "The restarts after that it'd take a few laps to get that thing up and going. We had a pretty good race car and we were right there with first and second. We were in heavy lapped traffic. Things were getting interesting with about 11 laps to go, but unfortunately the red flag came out. During that lengthy red flag our right rear tire was going flat. We took off on that restart and I could tell it was down."
Dollansky, who spent most of the race in third place, remained in contention for a podium finish until the tire blew on the last lap. He was credited with a 14[sup]th[/sup]-place result.
The Big Game Treestands team will return to Knoxville Raceway this Saturday and to Huset's Speedway on Sunday.
