Malden, Missouri (8/07/09) – Billy James has only competed in a handful of Super Late Model events in 2009, but on Friday night, he made the most of his time as he rocketed to the $2,000 O’Reilly MSRA Super Late Model win at Malden Speedway in Malden, Missouri.

Kyle Beard was the top point’s earner in heat race action and started in the JFR Graphics Pole Position for the 30 lap feature in his #86 Beard Trucking/GRT By Frye/Samuels Racing Engine Super Late Model. He was accompanied on the front row by Billy James. As the green flag waived on the feature, James and Beard battled side-by-side for the lead off into turn one with Billy Moyer Jr. and Jamie Dacus in tow. James would maintain a half a car length advantage over Beard during the race’s early stages as James worked the high side and Beard worked the low side.

The duo would continue to battle side-by-side for the lead for the first fourteen circuits before the event’s lone caution flag waived on lap 14 as Jeff Floyd rolled to a stop down the front stretch after contact with Gary Christian.

At the time of the caution, Billy James, Kyle Beard, and Billy Moyer Jr. made up the top three in the running order. On the ensuing restart, James pulled to a two car length advantage as Moyer Jr. took advantage over the double file restart to take over control of the second position from Kyle Beard. Over the remaining laps, Moyer Jr. would challenge James for the lead on several occasions, but would not be able to complete the pass.

Billy James would go on to take the win over Billy Moyer Jr., Kyle Beard, Terry English, and Jamie Dacus.

With the win, Billy James became the tenth different winner on the O’Reilly MSRA Super Late Model tour in 2009.

Heat races for the 24 car field were won by Billy James, Jamie Dacus, and Billy Moyer Jr.

The b-main was won by Jon Mitchell.

O’Reilly MSRA Super Late Model provisionals were awarded to Randy Mitchell and Jeff Wells Jr..

Billy James was the COMP Cams Top Performer.

Jeff Floyd claimed the Quartermaster Hard Luck Award after contact on lap 14 resulted in him rolling to a stop on the front straightaway before having to go to the back of the pack.

Michael Murphree earned the Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger Award after advancing from his 18th starting position to an 11th place finish.
