(MUSCATINE, IOWA) Brian Birkhofer and his Seubert Calf Ranches / Daufeldt Transport / Double Eagle Sales #15b MasterSbilt / Pro Power Monte Carlo survived a first lap racing incident in this past weekend’s Dirt Track World Championship and landed a solid sixth place finish. The 23rd edition of the DTWC was held at Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY and paid a whopping $60,000 to win. Brian was amongst the 151 cars in attendance at the ½-mile oval in central Kentucky.

His first lap wreck occurred on the second restart of the 100-lap event. Brian made heavy contact on the right side of his MasterSbilt racecar after trying to avoid a spinning Shane Clanton in front of him. The incident left Brian with a flat right front tire, but the crew quickly changed it in the infield and Brian returned to the event, restarting from his eighth starting spot. Brian would just ride for the entire 100 laps, as the passing was at an extreme minimum. A couple of cars had flat tires in front of him near the end of the event, allowing Brian to gain a couple more spots and a sixth place payoff at the pay window.

“We were kind of lucky that we were able to finish the race after that wreck on the second restart,” said Brian after the event. “I saw Shane there and I just tried to avoid him, but couldn’t. We got that flat that we came in and fixed, but I think that we may have bent something like an axle tube because something didn’t feel right out there. But, nobody could pass out there all weekend, so it really didn’t matter.”

Brian’s weekend at the DTWC kicked off on Saturday when he qualified second fastest of the 151 cars that took time. He got a good start from the pole of his heat race and rode the rubber to pick up the checkers and an eighth place starting spot for the prestigious DTWC.

Brian Birkhofer Racing’s last event of the “Way 2 Dirty Tour 2003” will be this coming weekend, when the #15b invades Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway in Calvert City, KY. The Commonwealth Cup is on tap for this weekend and Brian will be competing for the $15,000 top prize. The event is unsanctioned and you can learn more about the event and KLMS by visiting their website at www.klms.com.
