MINDEN, La. (April 25) – Johnny Bone Jr. scored his second wire-to-wire triumph of the season Saturday night as the USMTS Southern Series invaded the Champion Park Speedway in Minden, La., with a field of 52 top-notch Modified drivers signed in to do battle.
Bone was dominant from the time he unloaded his #12 TRE by Bone Modified until he rolled it back into the trailer after his victory. Coming from the fifth starting spot to win the Isky Racing Cams First Heat Race, the 42-year-old garnered the most passing points to earn the AFCO Pole Award.
The Pea Ridge, Ark., ace then drew the pole position for the start of the Sunoco "A" Main and that was the closest anybody ever got during the 40-lap affair.
Morgan Bagley turned in his best performance of the season with a runner-up finish, while Steve Holzkamper came home in third.
Bryan Rowland was fourth with Dereck Ramirez finishing fifth. Sixth through tenth, respectively, were B.J. Robinson, Chad Davis, Kyle Cummings, Jack Sullivan and Garrett Durrett.
Davis claimed the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Award after racing to seventh from the 21st starting spot on the 26-car grid.
With four East Region races in the books, Holzkamper sits atop the points standings with 350 points. Rodney Sanders failed to finish Saturday night's feature and fell from the top spot and into a tie for second with Sullivan at 320 points each. Ramirez is fourth with 308 markers, followed by Bone (307), Steven Whiteaker Jr. (288), Kelly Shryock (288), Jason Hughes (281), Bagley (272) and Patrick Linn (271).

By popular demand after a two-year hiatus, the USMTS Southern Series returns to the big and fast Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, La., on Sunday, April 26. Defending USMTS Southern Series champion Jason Hughes of Westville, Okla., came out on top during the most recent invasion on July 29, 2007.
Also on the racing card will be USRA Southern Limited Modifieds and Factory Stocks. Pit gates open at 4:00, grandstands open at 5:00, hot laps start at 6:00 and the mud starts flying at 6:30.
