‘It just popped going into turn three,’ Boom Briggs said in ‘Rubbin Repair’ Victory Lane after literally coasting to his second win in as many nights with the O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series, “That's why I had to coast this thing down to victory lane. But it's been a great weekend and a great way to kick-off this 2009 O'Reilly All-Star campaign."

2008 K-C Raceway Champion Ben Adkins and Briggs led the star-studded 24 car field with Boom taking the lead on the opening lap. Briggs stretched his lead in the early going being followed by SpeedWrapz Time Trials fast qualifier Steve Shaver and Davey Johnson as Adkins faded from the pole position. After a lap seven caution led to a Delaware Style restart which gave Indiana’s Steve Casebolt the ability to maneuver his way into the third spot behind Briggs and Shaver. Another caution on lap 11 helped Casebolt make his way around Shaver into second and right on the rear deck lid of the race leader.

Casebolt hounded Boom lap after lap, side by side, but Briggs held his line and kept his momentum up to hold off the hard charging #C9 of Casebolt. With 20 laps remaining, the two car battle for the lead quickly became a three car battle as Bart Hartman rode the rim of the high banks of K-C Raceway to pressure the race leaders. With 14 laps remaining, Hartman used the high side to pull even with Casebolt and was just about to make a move to go around Briggs for the lead but a caution for the spun car of ASLMS regular Jared Miley brought the caution out keeping the lead in the hands of Boom.

“It took a long time for my tires to warm up,” Hartman said about his charge to the front, “but that caution killed us. Tires cooled off just enough and the leaders pulled away from me. We’re happy with our third place finish.” When the field went back to green Briggs checked out from the field and after one more caution period, went on to endure his most adventurous trip through turns three and four. On the final circuit, Boom’s mount lost power as he entered turn three. Luckily for Briggs he had a big enough lead that he was able to coast across the finish line to go two-for-two during the opening weekend for the O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series.

“With a few laps to go I felt the car sputter” Boom mentioned in the Rubbin’ Repair Victory Lane, “I think I lost a couple valve springs so I moved up a groove and just kept up my momentum, it seemed to work. Steve (Casebolt) showed me his nose a couple times, but moving up really helped me keep up my speed. Then when I let off going into turn three the engine blew on the last lap. That's why I had to coast this thing down to victory lane. I had a good friend die this week," Briggs said about his long time friend Shawn ‘Sheetz’ McGarvey, "I'm pretty sure he was with me the last two nights.”
