(Warrensburg, MO) Central Missouri Speedway kicked off the 4th of July weekend with some sizzling racing action on the high-banked clay oval with a large turnout of modified drivers checked in for the B-Modified $1,500 to-win special feature event and for the first night of qualifying for the Tom Wilson Memorial $5,000-to-win special feature. After some early afternoon showers, the local track experienced a pleasant evening for area race fans with comfortable temperatures for the drivers. A total of 81 cars filled the pit area with 'Mighty Modifieds and B-Modifieds. Modified drivers qualified for the inside row tonight and will qualify the outside row starting positions on Saturday night with a 20 car scramble to sort out the final 12 starting positions. The 6th Annual Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl will also include the ULMA Late Models and Street Stocks along with the 24 car 40 lap special feature for the $40,000 purse with over $5,000 to the winner.

B-Modifieds were the featured class of the night with five heat races for 37 drivers using passing points to determine their positions for the special feature. The opening heat race had the young 18 year old driver Cody Graham from Chillicothe grabbing the win. Heat race two had three time CMS feature winner, Brad Smith from Belton for his heat victory. Heat race three was good for Kansas City driver, Rusty Trimble with the checkers. Heat Race four was another exciting race with Bryan Montgomery taking the convincing win. The final heat with the B-Modified division had Mark “Mountain Man” Evinger for the final heat checkers.

The b-main determined the final six transfers and turned into a fabulous race with three wide action for the final transfers. Bronson Combs, Joe Harris, Bobby Raybourn, Lucas Isaacs, Jacob Ebert from deep in the field and Brian Murphy all transferring into the special event later in the evening.

Brad Smith and Cody Graham led the 24 car feature to the line for a planned 25-lap special feature. Early in the race Smith establishes a high-side lead working to find some moisture on the track. Cody Graham worked into the second spot with Rusty Trimble and Brian Montgomery in the top four. A big pile-up in turn four on lap eight caused problems for multiple drivers with Chad Staus and Dustin Thulin leaving the track.

Brad Smith looked strong all night and didn’t let up after another yellow for Chris Brockway after he spun in turn two on lap nine stopping Michael King as well. Then the weather started to become a factor on lap ten as track officials received word of an approaching thunderstorm. The track started to receive some rain and the decision was made to stop the race after 15 laps were completed to ensure driver and fan safety.

Smith with the convincing lead as the rain started to slick up the track, became the happy winner in victory lane along with a great run by Cody Graham in second. Colt Cheevers finishes in third, Galen Hassler fourth and Rusty Trimble fifth. Jacob Ebert starts in the back row and moves up 14 spots for a tenth place finish earning the hard-charger award.

The 'Mighty' Modifieds were ready for action from the first heat race with side-by-side action on the smooth clay oval. 44 drivers registered for the big-money weekend with five heat races, two b-mains and the scramble while using passing points system in the heats to sort out the field. The opening heat of the night had Justin Boney of Leavenworth, Kansas taking the checkered flag with Don Danner in second. In heat number two, USMTS driver, Tommy Myers from Minnesota takes the flag ahead of hard charging James McMillin. The third heat was strong again with Lebanon driver, Tony Jackson Jr. barely beating USMTS driver, Grant Junghans from Manhattan, Kansas. In heat four Kansas driver and previous feature winner, Dustin Boney moves up seven spots into second place with former CMS special feature winner, Don Crnkovich from Lenexa, KS taking the checkers. In heat race five, Jamie Ragland from Lebanon takes the heat with Jason Pursley, who ran a strong second last week in the USMTS race in the second spot.
Then the modified drivers contested their two b-main events in which four more cars transferred on into the modified 20 lap scramble later on along with the top twelve in passing points from the earlier heat races. In the first b-main, Jim Moody and Josh Poe transferred into the scramble with Moody moving up several positions. In the second b-main after a side-by-side race for several laps, Mt Ayr, Iowa driver, Dennis Elliott and Luke Feeback transfer into the scramble.
Twenty cars started the scramble for the 12 inside row starting positions for Saturday night and a guarantee for at least $1,000 to start. Early on it was obvious Chad Lyle had the fast car on the low side of the track as he worked down low most of the race. Behind him were several drivers including Dustin Boney attempting to work in the moisture up high. After several cautions Boney moved up into second place and made a strong move around Lyle on the high-side after a re-start for a yellow flag. Behind the leaders the driver moves for the final transfer positions were into the mix with James McMillin, Jamie Ragland, Don Dannar, Don Crnkovich and Justin Boney making their way to the front. It appeared Dustin Boney would lead it to the end of the scramble then trouble struck for him with white smoke coming off his machine. Boney then leaves the track for mechanical problems with only one lap to go which moves Lyle back into the lead. In the end, the winner of two previous Fourth of July special features, Chad Lyle takes the checkers for the Tom Wilson Modified Memorial pole position on Saturday night. Behind him with a strong run for second was McMillin, Danner in third, Ragland fourth, and Crnckovich fifth. The remaining transfers include in order; Justin Boney, Tony Jackson Jr., Tommy Myers, Jason Pursley, Daulton Grevin, Luke Feeback, and the final transfer to Iowa driver, Dennis Elliott.

Another 20-lap modified scramble will sort out the final twelve outside row starting positions on Saturday night before the 40-lap special feature event. ULMA Late Models and Street Stocks join the action on Saturday night along with the modifieds. A fireworks extravaganza will also add to the night of exciting racing. Pit gates open at 4:30 PM with Grandstands admission beginning at 5, the driver's meeting begins at 6:30, Hot Laps start at 7 with racing following at 7:30.
