(MUSCATINE, IOWA) The Birkhofer Racing team endured some extreme highs and lows last week in Dirt Late Model action in the states of Iowa and Kentucky. On Tuesday night, August 4, Brian Birkhofer picked up his seventh win of the 2009 racing season at the West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa. After winning his heat race, Brian dominated the $10,000 to win 'Tornado Tuesday' main event, as he lapped up to second place in taking the checkers well ahead of Billy Moyer, Chad Simpson, Matt Miller, and Chris Simpson.

The dirt-slinging action quickly shifted to the Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky on Friday and Saturday, August 7-8 for the 27th annual running of the 'North/South 100.' Brian timed in second fastest in Group A during Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series qualifying on Friday evening. Unfortunately, the Muscatine, Iowa native's weekend ended prematurely after he was collected in a heat race incident on the frontstretch on Saturday. Brian was forced to load up his damaged #15b and missed out on the $50,000 to win 'North/South 100,' which was won by M-B Customs teammate Jimmy Mars. You can view complete results from both West Liberty and Florence by pointing your web browser to www.dirtondirt.com.

"It was definitely a rollercoaster weekend for us," quoted Birkhofer earlier in the week via telephone. "We had an awesome car at West Liberty and it was great to get back into victory lane in front of a bunch of our fans, friends, and family. Then at Florence, I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time in the heat race. It was unfortunate, but that is how racing goes sometimes and we will look for a much better performance this weekend at Batesville."

Next up for the #15b team will be the 17th Annual 'Topless 100' at the Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Arkansas. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will once again sanction the biggest topless Dirt Late Model event in the country, as a $40,000 payday is on the line. Qualifying and heat race action will take place at Batesville on Friday night, August 14, while the last chance races and the 100-lap main event will headline the weekend on Saturday evening, August 15. The cameras of the SPEED Channel will be on hand at BMS to tape all of the exciting action for broadcast later in the year.
