(MUSCATINE, IOWA) Brian Birkhofer participated in three events last week during the UMP portion of Speedweeks at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, FL. He raced on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday night, with all three nights paying $5,000 to the winner. Birky missed the show on Wednesday, but qualified for the other two events. Brian qualified for the Thursday night show by finishing second in the consolation event and was making his way up through the field in the feature until both right side tires went flat on his Daufeldt Transport/ Double Eagle Racing Sales #15b MasterSbilt / Pro Power Monte Carlo. He wound up battling back and finishing in the 14th position. Another mechanical setback struck Birky on Friday night, as he broke a fan blade in the feature, relegating him to a disappointing 19th place effort. The Muscatine, Iowa driver was frustrated about his Speedweek runs, but was still upbeat about the rest of the season.

“We flat out struggled at Volusia last week,” said Brian while unloading his cars at his Muscatine shop. “We were running pretty good on Thursday night in the feature and we had those two flat tires. That was unfortunate, but that is how racing goes sometimes. We are just going to regroup here while we have a little time off and hopefully turn things around when we hit the track next. Our next race probably won’t be until the World of Outlaw event at Atomic Motor Speedway in mid-March. That has been a pretty decent track for us in the past and hopefully we can get back on track there.”

The World of Outlaw Late Model Series event at Atomic Motor Speedway in Knoxville, TN is scheduled to take place on March 13-14. The event at the ultra-fast 1/3-mile facility will be the fifth event ran under the new WoO Late Model Series banner. Log on to www.atomicmotorspeedway.com to learn more about this event.
