With fifty Deery Brothers Summer Series drivers checked in to do battle on the “Broadway Bullring” in Quincy, Illinois you knew it was going to be a great night of racing to open the 2010 racing season and the racers made it a whale of a night. The second event of the 2010 Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models set a record at Quincy Raceways as the previous largest car count had been 48 set in 2007.

The nights action started off with Mark Burgtorf taking the first heat race win over Josh Most and Ray Guss Jr.. Heat two saw Jason Rauen getting to the checkered first but it was Jeremiah Hurst getting the win as Rauen taking a DQ followed by Keith Pratt and Travis Smock. Heat three found reigning IMCA Late Model National Champion, Kevin Blum taking the win followed by Darrel DeFrance and Billy Genenbacher. Heat four went to Jason Frankel with Tom Darbyshire and Any Eckrich in second and third. Veteran Ron Elbe grabbed heat five honors over Tyler Bruening and Jason Perry.

B-Main saw Rob Toland, Denny Woodworth and Boone McLaughlin transferring into the A-Main followed by Jay Johnson, Justin Reed and Nick Ingalls transferring from the second B-Main.

The fifty lap main event began with Darrel DeFrance jumping into the lead at the drop of the green flag and holding off Jason Frankel for the first twelve circuits. Frankel powered past the “Ironman” on the high side and pulled away to a significant advantage until the field closed up with a caution flag midway through the event. Burgtorf challenged Frankel and it looked like the 2009 Deery Series Runner-Up was going to get another win at Quincy but Burgtorf slipped past Frankel in turn four on lap 34 and then checked out in taking his record breaking 8th Deery Win at Quincy Raceways. Frankel settled for second followed by Ray Guss Jr. in third, Keith Pratt in fourth and Denny Woodworth in fifth. The Deery Brother Summer Series returns to Quincy Raceways on June 13 for the $3000 to Win Titan Wheel Shootout.

Michael Long continued his winning ways in the Miller Lite UMP Modified main event. Long started outside the second row and took the lead from Dave Wietholder on the fifth circuit after a terrific battle between Wietholder, Justin Reed and himself. Long then held off Reed over the remaining laps to take the win followed by Reed in second, Donovan Lodge in third, Wietholder in fourth and Tony Dunker in fifth. Wietholder, Long and Tony Dunker were the heat race winners with Justin Reed claiming the first of the Advance Trading Trophy Dashes.

Terry Houston took his Ford into the lead of the Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car feature event at the drop of the green flag and led the entire twenty laps to get his first feature win of the 2010 season. Kevin Tomlinson, Able Huls and Jeff Mueller made every effort to chase down Houston but just did not have enough to get the job done. Tomlinson settled for second followed by Mueller, Huls and Jerry Jansen. Jansen’s fifth place feature finish was kind of amazing as he crashed hard into the front stretch wall and tore up a large section of the retaining fence as he rolled onto his roof in heat number one. Dave Warth and Mueller were the heat race winners.

Bobby Anders dropped back a class for the 2010 season and he made it pay off by leading the entire fifteen lap distance in the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stock division. Anders took the win over 2009 Track Champion Steve Carlin in second, Jim Powell in third, Travis Booher in fourth and Larry Powell in fifth. Anders and Jake Powers were the heat race winners.
