car counts vs too many classes

51 lates have ran I 55 with no specials this year , its getting them there on the same weekend

its not as and b s leave the a alone drop sportsman and street their are too many classes running the same speed
It is the modified class. We need to find a way to make the late models grow as a class and combine the modifieds as one unified class.

yes I too remember the good ole days when there were 2 classes the a cars and the b cars. I would like to see more done to the mod class too. but will it stick? when mods got started there was a claim rule ( I remember an area in the pits at Pevely where the top 5 in the feature had to park for so long for some to claim the motor. but like everything else it did not stay that way. we had those gentleman's agreements you don't claim mine and I won't claim yours. and for those doing all of the stuff to a hornet really? for a 100 bucks! that's part of the reason we are to this point. yes tracks should enforce the rules but owners and drivers need to police things too. I would like to hear from Kermit the frog or salty dog on what they see as the biggest threat to the dwindling car counts. and as a fan that can't afford to go like he would like I do pay attention to car counts. and this past Friday I found my self thinking to my self I should have waited until the gold crown nationals there may have been more cars. like anyone I want to feel that I got my monies worth

Sprint Car Track, Run: sprints, mods, and street stocks

Late Model Track, Run: late models, mods, and street stocks

Work on lowering costs for all classes

Shows would get over by 11, car count and fan count goes up

Ghost, I think you have it correct. One set of rules for all Modifieds, Street Stocks only for entry level. Add midgets, micros, and vintage once in a while if you want to change things up.

like i said look at oakshade classes AND how much they charge for every show no matter what yep no surprises

I grow up in midstate NY and there was no late models. There was 2 modified classes. They ran the big block and small block modifieds and they also looked the same. Both classes are still running today. But they now have a sportsman class with the same style car. So simular class will work. But they also only ran a total of 3 classes per night. I do agree they need to cut classes the cost needs to change also. Also the payout needs to change. For how many years know has the payout stay the same. And I do realise that goes with head and car count.

Valud pounts are being made from performance standpoints. But i saw one person hit the nail on the head. Older drivers are quitting much faster than young ones are starting. Theres no.one to replace those that have left. The interest in dirt racing isnt there like.it was 20 years ago. This is where i believe the promoters need to step up and be creative. Find ways to put butts in seats. Every driver was a fan first.

Oh my.....shakes head, The older racers got into racing when the economy and racing were cheap...in todays world why would a young man want to race money ? Think hard ....people don't race cars in today's sport...its how fast the dollar bills can get around the track...that's why no one is excited about racing any longer they just cant afford to compete but eh what do I know :(

You are correct. The old way of appealing to the younger generation is long gone. But like anythung that survives, the sport needs new blood. That means new ways of putting butts in seats. New ways of attracting sponsors. New ways of keeping the fans you have and branching out to the new ones. Growth is vital.

Not trying to sound like a ceo at a board meeting, but if the new fans arent coming, we dont have a sport. Costs need to come down without question, but getting more fans will help offset that by bringing in more mo ey i stead of paying it all out.

so heres my 2 cents three classes are all that's needed the entry level class needs to teach a driver how to feel a car understand how to drive it and deal with the pressure of being in front of the fans mid level class should introduce chassis adjustments to learn how and why they effect your car and u inherently learn how you personally like a car to feel the upper level needs to be essentially a late model I adore the street stock class because its simple and can b very affordable for years we won a lot of races with very modest motors because our suspension worked very well my biggest issue is that instead of actually learning whats needed to make a car faster ppl spend more money more rules are added cuz ppl complain they need this or that to compete or be faster quit givin rules force racers to work within the constrainst of that class the bomber I raced 8 year ago cost me 4 grand all in to build from the ground up an we won quite a bit of features heats and dashes then every year this is allowed that's allowed and so on we could've kept up but my family situation changed so I had to give it up for a bit but to get back in is extremely more daunting than my it was my first time

Me and my daughter talked about when my dad resumed his racing career. Had a 71 Pontiac lemans. Put a truck rear end in it and leaf springs and adjustable shackles for bite from a junk yard. Was forced to run whatever motor came in it. Pontiac had to run Pontiac ect. We blew 7 motors up. Cams wouldn't hold up but you know what? It was cheap! There is a huge class just waiting to be started and im just sitting and waiting for it to begin. Run old old old mod chassis(they are all over cheap!!!) and make them use stock shocks. No aftermarket shocks and use stock springs. No quick steer. Run a 9 inch ford as they can be found still pretty cheap but run a chosen track gear. Run street tires only! Run stock motors! No racing cams no racing heads. Run a bone stock engine and that's pretty easy to tell when you hear them. Stock ignition clutch ect. Run a chip rule. Be creative on the bodies. Pacers gremlins chevettes ect. Whatever you want to use but has to be stock metal. Make racers go back to using junkyard stuff. Keep them slow so they don't need that high dollar racing stuff but keep it competitive so you put on some good racing! Im hearing what some have in their b mods and good god! As in another post mod prices are creaping up and starting to see some really high dollar pieces out there. Not saying they will make people fast just that adds to a classes cost. Just food for thought.

That track has a bunch of classes but the IMCA mods is the biggest. Are the IMCA rules more conservative than UMP?

How many guys build their own motors anymore? Those mullins motors are winning alot of races but at what cost. 15-20,000?

Id love to put a car on the track but I'm afraid ill never have the money for it

Let's face it the times have changed. I know some promoters are trying different things and it does not seem to be making a difference. I for one sure don't know what it's going to take but, one thing the cost is just out of hand. That's why you are seeing these other classes. Not sure if eliminating some of these classes would help or not some may get out altogether and never come back.

Yes, they could have to many classes, but jmo got to have a set of rules for every class.that means no changing them to suit your needs, and actually in force them. You could do away with every class and completely start over and if the rules aren't going to be in forced ,you'll be right back where we are today. The days of a cheap racecar is gone it takes more money for parts and getting the car tires street or racing and if you dont do the work yourself larbor to
