Even though the calendar still says 2006, CMS track management is on course for making the 2007 season a total success. As off-season work continues at the track itself, other plans and events are coming together as well. The first event that all teams who will be competing at CMS in 2007 will want to be aware of is the Registration Meeting, which will take place on January 20th in Warrensburg, MO, at the ABC Building in Grover Park from 9AM to 12 Noon. To get to the ABC Building coming in from the intersection of Highway 50 and Highway 13 (Maguire), stay on 13 until you get to North Street, make a left at North Street and continue on just past the tennis courts on the right side of the street and use the parking lot by the courts. For those coming in from the Southside of Warrensburg on Highway 13 (Maguire), make a right at North Street. The intersection of North and Maguire Streets has a stoplight and is adjacent to the King’s Chef Buffet Chinese restaurant.

Recently, at the Central Auto Racing Boosters (CARB) awards and recognition banquet, Earl and Susan Walls handed out over $9,500 in cash prizes as well as trophies to the drivers finishing in the top tier of their respective divisions during the 2006 season. Josh Fisher (305 Sprint Cars), Tony Nelson (B-Modifieds), Jimmy Ngo (Street Stocks), Brett Rollert (Limited Late Models) and Aaron Marrant (Mighty Modifieds) were all recognized as track champions. The top 10 in the Street Stocks, Limited Late Models and Mighty Modifieds were recognized in front of the large-capacity crowd as were the top 5 in the B-Modified and 305 Sprint Car divisions. In addition to CMS awarding their own drivers, CARB also recognized some CMS competitors with special awards. In the “Most Improved” category, Aaron Marrant of Richmond, MO, picked up the award for the Mighty Modified division; Derek Nevels of Higginsville, MO, was recognized in the Limited Late Model division, Gary Hemme of Sedalia, MO, in the Street Stocks and Kevin Roth of Lone Jack, MO, took the distinction in the 305 Sprint Car division. Richard Leigh of Cleveland, MO, was recognized as “Rookie of the Year” for the Limited Late Model division based upon his second-place point’s finish. Christi Hoenshell of Greenwood, MO, who also finished in second position in her division took the “Rookie of the Year” honors for the 305 Sprint Car division.

CMS management is continuing to make fan-friendly adjustments to the 2007 admission prices. After announcing a few weeks ago that General Admission prices would be decreased to $10, the Walls have now set prices for Senior Citizens and Children ages 6 to 12 at only $5 for admission! Military and Students with proper I.D. will also receive $2 off their General Admission price in 2007 by showing their I.D. at the admission booth. Susan Walls has been busy in the off-season planning and setting the stage for sponsorship of the track and special events. Interested businesses partners and sponsors who would like to be a part of the CMS team are asked to call Susan at (816) 229-1338. CMS is now a proud new member of the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce and is looking forward to a long and prosperous relationship with the Chamber. A “ribbon cutting” ceremony is in the works for early in the 2007 season, as soon as details are finalized more information about this exciting event will be released.

Recently, everyone at CMS was deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of Limited Late Model driver Mike Brockert. The entire staff at CMS would like to express our condolences to Mike's family, friends and loved ones during this time. Track statistician Glyda Jaeger, who provided the stats you are about to read stated, "Although Mike never made point champion, for those of us who knew him he was a champion many times over." Mike was a highly successful driver over a several-year span at CMS beginning in 1989, continuing right up until his final feature victory in the Limited Late Model division in 2004. He competed in Super Stocks and Enduro cars during the early 90s and recorded feature victories in both of those divisions. After returning to the Super Stock division in 1994, Mike did not compete at CMS again until 2000 when he raced in the Super Stock division driving his now well-known #35 car. That year he finished 7th in the final point standings and raced his way to one feature win. CMS fans will surely remember 2001 as "Mike's Year" as he racked up an impressive 9 feature wins and finished second in the final point standings. He did not compete on a full-time basis in 2002 or 2003 but did return in 2004, finishing tenth in the final point standings and winning one feature victory along the way. Mark Evinger kept the familiar black #35 in the spotlight during the 2005 season by driving for Mike in the Limited Late Model division. All total, Mike won a total of 14 "feature" events at CMS and will be remembered as a "man of his word who stuck to his values no matter what."
