All of us at CMS would like to wish all of you a Happy New Year! Our 2007 season champions have been crowned and trophies and points-fund money have been awarded. Now, it's time to focus on 2008 and a brand-new season at the high banks of CMS! The first step in getting there is registering next year’s drivers and reviewing the rules one final time before competition begins in April. The annual Registration Meeting will take place on Saturday, January 19th, from 9AM to Noon at the ABC Building on the grounds of Grover Park in Warrensburg, Missouri. Drivers competing in the four CMS racing divisions may register for the 2008 season at the meeting for $50 and will save $10 for registering prior to February 17th, after which registration increases to $60 for the remainder of the year. The top ten finishers in the final 2007 standings from each division automatically keep their car numbers if they choose; all other number requests are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition to registration for the drivers, attendees will also have an opportunity to ask CMS officials questions concerning each division's competition rules. Next year’s divisions at the ‘Burg are the ‘Mighty’ Modifieds, ULMA Late Models, Street Stocks and B-Modifieds. All rules, along with the 2008 season schedule are now posted on the track's official Website at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.

As opening night on April 26th approaches, CMS owners/promoters Earl and Susan Walls continue to make updates to next year’s schedule. To the delight of many sprint car fans in the greater Kansas City area, the newly formed Midwest Sprint Car Association (MSCA), a newly formed 305 Sprint Car group, will make two appearances at the track. The first will take place on Saturday, May 3rd, the second on Saturday, August 2nd. Potential sponsors for these two events and other race nights are asked to call Susan Walls at (816) 229-1338. Each of the CMS racing divisions will compete in special events throughout the 2008 campaign. The first special of the year features the 'Mighty' Modifieds in a $2,000-to-win feature event on Saturday, May 24th. The ULMA Late Models headline the next special event on Saturday, June 21st. Then, on Friday, July 4th the Street Stocks will race for $1,500-to-win as part of the ground-breaking two-day, Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl Independence Day weekend of racing. On night one, Street Stocks and Modifieds will take to the track for competition, which also features a fireworks extravaganza. The modifieds will be attempting to qualify for the next night's $5,000-to-Win feature event. On the next night, Saturday, July 5th, the 'Mighty' Modifieds will headline the card as a $40,000 Modified purse will be at stake, ULMA Late Models and B-Modifieds are also set to run on July 5th. This race has already found its way onto the itineraries of many leading open-wheel modified drivers throughout the Midwest and is already one of the most anticipated racing events of the 2008! This race is sure to bring out some of the fiercest touring modified competitors to the track; however, these drivers will not find the task of taking home the big bucks very easy as they will have to fend off the challenges of the deeply talented pool of weekly CMS drivers. Additional schedule highlights include a B-Modified special on Saturday, July 26th and the final special of the year on Saturday, August 30th, with a $3,000-to-win Modified event. The complete CMS schedule is available on the track’s official Website. Be sure to check back often for further updates regarding the 2008 racing season.

In the last few weeks, several additional loads of dirt have been worked into the racing surface. The pit area has also been improved with new loads of dirt added in order to expand the pits and to better accommodate the larger expected turnout of weekly racers and the scheduled specials. Work also continues on new back-stretch bleachers, which will be in place in time for opening night. To join the growing CMS e-mail newsgroup e-mail track announcer Sam Stoecklin at samonthemic@hotmail.com and request to join, be the first to receive CMS track reports and press releases before anyone else. Special event-night and track sponsors should call Susan Walls at (816) 229-1338. See you at the registration meeting on January 19th!
