MADISON, Ill. (Feb. 27) – Charter Pipeline, the high-speed internet service offered by St. Louis-based Charter Communications, will once again be the title sponsor of the NASCAR Busch Series race at Gateway International Raceway.

This year’s Charter Pipeline 250 is set for May 9-10 at the Gateway oval. Last year, Greg Biffle won the Charter Pipeline 250 on his way to the Busch Series championship.

This year’s race will feature St. Louis natives Kenny and Mike Wallace, Winston Cup star Todd Bodine. They will join Busch Series veterans like former series champs Randy LaJoie and David Green, Scott Riggs, Stacy Compton and Mike Bliss, last year’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champ who took the Bud Pole at Gateway. They will face the challenge of another crop of talented young stars like Kerry Earnhardt, Johnny Sauter, Kasey Kahne and Shane Hmiel.

“We’re happy to have Charter Pipeline back as the title sponsor of this, our biggest event of the year,” Gateway Vice President and General Manager Matt Strelo said. “It is the latest in what we are sure will be a welcome string of announcements of current Gateway corporate partners continuing the relationship, and new partners coming on board for 2003. We are excited about this trend, and look for a great season, on and off the track.”

Paul Sly, Vice President of Advertising Sales for Charter Communications said, “We’re excited to be back on board with Gateway and the NASCAR Busch Series, bringing Midwest race fans and our Charter customers some of the fastest and best racing again in 2003. Just like we bring our customers the fastest and best internet service available through our Charter Pipeline product.

As part of the Charter Pipeline 250 event, Gateway is planning a major post-race country music concert, a salute to our nation’s Armed Forces and Christian Family Day Activities.

The Charter Pipeline 250 kicks off this year’s revamped schedule of Gateway major events, with a prime spring date and a weekend where the Busch Series will be the focus of the NASCAR world, with Winston Cup and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series taking the weekend off. The event will be broadcast live on FX for the first time.

The action continues June 27-29 with the Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals moving to a Friday through Sunday late afternoon and evening format, which will make for better racing and more comfortable conditions for fans. The ESPN networks will cover four hours of qualifying and final round action in prime time.

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and International Truck & Engine Midwest Series return July 18-19 for the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers Ram Tough 200, which will be seen on Speed Channel.

And on Aug. 9-10, the Gateway Indy 250 returns, featuring the best in close-quarter open wheel action with the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series and IRL Infiniti Pro Series. The IndyCar Series race will be live on ABC, while ESPN2 covers the Infiniti Pro Series action.

Individual event tickets are on sale by calling (866) 35-SPEED or going online at www.gatewayraceway.com.

The value-filled Gateway season ticket package, which gives fans the best seats in the house for all three oval track races, infield access and parking passes along with discounts and premiums for only $175 ($80 for children 12-under) are also still on sale.
