Cheating, or creative thinking?!?

I done most of my racing 20+ years ago and when the guys from my era get togeather and bench race, theres quite a few that like to brag about how bad they were cheating and getting away with it, how the tech man who also built engines would leave one cyl of valves unmolested and check only those during a tear down. among other things that they think is quite funny now, but how much money and point or finishing positions did they steal from me who was legal. I was very naive about honesty and intregrity in those days, some racers had none of it

tod-how bout the time we went to mid way in Lebanon with our cars--my shit box (the old #1 sportsman)MIGHT have had a brinn--MIGHT have had a mag-MIGHT have had aluminum heads-ran 3d in the fall fling--in the tear down shack they looked every thing over and then DQd me for 2 bead locks on the right side KARMAS--- a MFr------ but then I am a SOB senile old basturd---I do not think that car was cheated up

I talked to Harold later and he basically said they saw all that stuff you mention.... AND the right side deadlocks. So it was "pick one, any one" lol. He figured the bead locks were as good as any and that would set your hair on fire.... turns out old Harold knew you pretty good, Lenny.. lol

I still remember having a pretty good time that weekend, even if we did get rained on some. :)

Back in 1982 I was racing the bomber class at St. Charles running pretty good. (I was second in points that year). The rule was we had to run mufflers, so I went to the local muffler shop and rooted through their scrap and found two cherry bomb glass packs that were totally gutted and put them on the car. One night I had one of the mufflers come off and a fellow competitor claimed I was running headers which was illegal so the protest man (Art Gross) comes over to check. He saw no headers but saw the burnt out glass pack and fined me $10.
Just FYI, I think that was the last year you could run a 4bbl carb because they realized some of us were running faster than the sportsman class.lol

I told Harold what all I had on the car -the mag and the brinn---he said bring her down---but I violated the bead lock rule and I cost me $600 ---hell-should-a won it any way

left turn---the new BONE STOCK class @ hi-land has no motor limits except no turbos or superchargers---guess I should have kept my mouth shut bout my riv with a blower 3.8 motor

On asphalt we had ride height rule on qualifying only, you line up on pit rd and they walk by and slide a gauge under left side of car if clears you pull out and make your lap, so someone put a deep well socket between frame and AFrame, pass tech pull on track and swerve back and forth and lost another socket lol!

I know several guys who tried something like this only to discover that their car turned better lap times when set to a static ride height that was HIGHER than the minimum allowed by the rules.

Not cheating... Exploiting grey areas.
