BEAR LAKE, PA – Feb. 7, 2010 – Healed up and well-prepared, Chub Frank is ready to dive into the 2010 racing season.
The 48-year-old veteran from Bear Lake, Pa., will kick off the 32nd competitive campaign of his storied career this week at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla. He has six nights of action on his plate – DIRTcar UMP Late Model events on Feb. 8, 9, 10 and 12, and the season-opening World of Outlaws Late Model Series programs on Feb. 11 and 13.
Of course, the WoO LMS will once again be Frank’s primary focus in 2010. This will be the seventh consecutive season as a WoO LMS regular for Frank, who finished seventh in the tour’s 2009 points standings after being sidelined for the final two events due to the facial injury he suffered during qualifying on Nov. 4 for the Hungry Man Showdown that preceded the World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
“Going for that Outlaw championship is the gameplan this year,” said Frank, who owns 16 career WoO LMS wins and a personal-best points finish of second (2007). “Hopefully this will be the year.”
Frank said the right orbital bone he fractured last November healed well without surgery and he’s now recovered 100 percent from the painful ordeal. He also enjoyed a productive off-season preparing his three Rocket No. 1* Chevrolet Impala SS-bodied cars, which this year sport sponsorship from Corry Rubber, Lake Shore Paving, Hino Toyota, Sorbera Family Chiropractic, All-Star Performance, Slavic Corporation, Custom Race Engines, GW Performance, Integra Shocks and Hoosier Tire.
“We’re looking forward to getting back racing,” said Frank, who returns with Brandon ‘Chief’ Bilskie as the chief mechanic of his self-owned team. “We got a lot of work done over the last few months. We’re actually ahead of the game for once going into a season.”
The personable driver known as ‘Chubzilla’ has three Rocket machines ready for action this year, including the 2005-vintage car he ‘borrowed’ from western Pennsylvania racer Chad Valone last August and promptly drove to back-to-back WoO LMS victories that got him back on track. Frank had that car – as well as a virtual twin to it that he found for sale in North Carolina and quickly purchased – completely redone, and he built a brand-new ‘black’ front-end mount that he’ll likely debut sometime during the spring.
