Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, High School Hornets Debut, and Big Ten Street Stock Series

Macon, IL – Macon Speedway will be hosting their annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta with a Jalapeno Eating contest during intermission and the first appearance from the High School Hornets this coming Saturday, May 1st. This weekend will also be the first race for the Big Ten Street Stock Series as Macon, Jacksonville, and Shepps Speedway’s team up to offer Street Stock drivers a $3,000 point fund for 10 races.

The Big Ten Street Stocks will race on May 1st, June 5th, July 17th, and September 4th at Macon, June 4th, July 16th at Jacksonville, and May 9th, June 6th, July 18th, and September 5th at Shepps.

The debut of High School Hornets division is a new addition to the program to encourage young adults to get into racing as the students will paint their cars up as their high school colors or red or yellow. This will mark the start of the Phil Sargent Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. The Phil Sargent Scholarship will be presented to the High School that has the most participation in the High School Hornet division for the year in the amount of $1,000.

This weekend will be the third edition to Macon Speedway’s “Best Fan in the Stands” where a lucky fan will win $100 this week if their name is draw from the box after the Modified feature event. If the Best Fan in the Stands is not present the prize money will roll over into next week’s prize. Macon Speedway will also be drawing an extra 50/50 ticket to give one lucky fan a ride in the Macon Speedway 2 seater Late Model driven by one of Macon Speedway’s local drivers.

Saturday night’s schedule will feature six UMP divisions, including the Modifieds, Touchstone Energy Sportsman, Street Stock, Pro Hornets, Amateur Hornets, and the High School Hornets. The UMP Street Stocks winner will take home $500.

Macon Speedway offers fun family entertainment every Saturday night from April to September. With many fan favorite events on schedule, including three “Night of NASCAR Stars” nights planned and the famous Herald and Review 100, UMP’s premier Summer National event, 2010 is stacking up to be a memorable year. Gates will open at 5:00 and racing will start at 7:00. Adults are $10 and kids 12 and under get in for free with a paying adult.
