Class to be dropped at Highland Speedway!

Yes, thanks for the response,

But,

Waiting until the last minute to decide which classes you are going to run next year is doing nothing to help the car counts in any class, especially the newer classes (sportmods, crates.)

Right now is the time that drivers, car owners, etc need to decide their plans for next season.

Nobody wants to go out and spend thousands of dollars on a car that they may or may not be able to race next year.

Our goal is to have it all finalized by Thanksgiving. We know that all the drivers, owners, and teams need to know as soon as possible. Thanks!!!

i dont see how those 2 statements helped anybody figure out what is going on. This is why, even though I was out of the highland sportsman division, I was not happy they dropped the class. Principal. I have been hearing these same rumors about the crate late models and the hornets and think that would stink, but 6 classes is WAY too many. I think it is unfortunate that the bomber division has got to the point that there needed to be a division below it. I remember starting out in the bombers with stock pistons in my engine, stock metric rear ends, street tires, etc.........

Great post Jimmy...the reason things get out of hand in the SS class is no track will really tech em good. Jmo

i heard someone say a few weeks ago at a track that there suppose to drop a class to add the micro's again just another rumor don't know if it has any truth or not

How does a track expect racers to commit to it when the track doesn't commit to them for more than one season at a time???? Every off season you read on here about classes being added or dropped. I think whom ever is in charge needs to concentrate on making the place one racers want to race at rather than trying to finagle classes around to achieve desired car counts. If 4 classes is what they want, I'd go with LM's, A Mods, SS and 4cyls. JMO

amen to that

As I remember This class was started x years ago because Highland Speedway was in financial trouble and needed a way to help get them out. So the hornet class was started and went over very well and still is a very good class. It brought alot of young racers into the sport and was and still is a very good starting level for the person that wants to race and doesnt have deep pockets. This is your warning If you were to drop that class it would put you back into a deeper hole than you are in now. The amount of money that this class brings in compared to what is paid out for this class would be no brainer and should never be considered to drop this class. It has nothing to do if you like watching this class are another better I do enjoy and have seen some of the best races time after time in this class. I have nothing to do with any class but I just thought I would put a little insight on why this class was started and why I feel they need to keep it

Personally I know these promoters have no easy choices to make, With Economy this bad, fan and car counts are the 2 most important things and with 4 good tracks so close with BC/TCS running friday nites and Pevely/Highland running Saturday nites splits a lot of the Lates and Mods in up to as much as half, To me the only way the Latemodels and Mods appeal to me is when there is a crapload of them, If track promoters all worked together and take turns each race nite Hosting the Latemodels it may double there car counts, Look at how many years Allied ran just Mod's, Limited Sportsman's and Streetstocks and they did just fine, Right now the Latemodels are just plane boring unless its a big show or unless Dirtboy's favorite racer in the O car is "HARD" charging to the front.....Sometimes we try to hard changing things that were never broken or to make certain people with open pocket books happy, But I will say we are blessed to have so many great race tracks its a shame they cant work together...

Highland has much more important issues at hand. Fix the track and how it operates. If racers refuse to take their cars there, your screwed. The fans want to see good cars with good drivers.

If you fix it, they will come...

i don't think they are talking about dropping classes, they might be looking at giving a class off ever now and then. it will give them a chance to bring in other forms of racing to the speedway and give regular classes a night off to go spend time with there families or go race at a different track and not worry about loosing points at your regular track. micros, midgets, dwarf cars, kids mods would be a great idea to fill those nights, it will bring different cars to the track and bring a different breed of fans with them. more food sales, more ticket sales, more pit passes.

latemodels boring i don't think so and if it's not broke don't fix it!!!

The track and facilty is good so give Scott and crew credit for that cause they have worked their azzz off over the years to make it better. Tim is right the latemodels have fell off over the years with low counts and some poor racing. You guys know as well as me some of the best racing the last couple years has been in the SS and hornet class. Gotta give em credit cause both classes have stepped up over the years and put on some great show. Don't forget without them we wouldn't have LM and mod show cause there the reason we get the payout to the shows Jmo

Instead of worrying about other stuff why dont we worry about running the show in a timely matter. Not saying staying out late bothers me because due to my job i stay up later than most, but i am saying instead of running the lm and mods first lets rotate the features every weekend. Week after week its the same 2 to 3 classes getting screwed time after time on their features or they get theres shortened because of time because the lm or mods took to much time to run. The classes that seem to get screwed week in and week out work just as hard on their cars as do the guys in the lm and mods. Scott you of all people know how this works beings back in the late 80's early 90's you ran your sportsman and you dang well thats how they did it then and it seemed to work then and yes i realize we didnt have as many classes back the as we do know but give it a try and see how it works. Let the lm and mods see how it is for once to see how it is to not be able to run their features because of time! I bet they wouldnt like it very much! True be told when this happens to the support classes its normally because the lm or mods couldnt get their crap together and caused to many yellow flags. I mean this is one reason i never brought my junker back out to highland because of this but its not like on car really matters but to me it did. So Scott lets try it and see what happens and you might possibly get more cars and butts in the seats. I mean think about it most people leave when the lm and mods are done any way so rotate the features and that means more concession sells and people might stick around a little longer. Then the kids might just be able to go on the pits and get a chance to see their favorite driver and get a autograph or a picture with their favorite driver and that right there just might put more butts in the stands knowing their child will be able to get that chance. Jmo

I would say highland is a track where pill draw is key... But I've also seen guys like Harrison,Beilong,Hewitt and several other start at the back and wax their azzes over there lol

I agree Kevin...these tracks would definitely benefit more by doing that!!! I would also say these tracks have stepped up over the years for the kids but they still need to work on more drive fan interaction and maybe even draw names the week before and taking 5 to 10 kids through the pits each week to meet and get a first hand look up close with them Jmo

I think one of the reasons they run the Late Models and Mods first is that they don't want the cars with the louder motors running late in the show and cause complaints from the local residents. Every few years there is a push to close the track down from the locals. There has not been one for several years but they are due.

They just made a push this season about the loud cars and Scott made a post on here about it and asked us to sign it and support the track. But the bad thing is people think the LM are loud you should hear them hornets up on the circle lol sound like a pack of pissed off killer bees

They absolutely need to figure out how to get a show ran in a timely manner. I've done a bit of travelling over the years and I've never seen a track that plays around during a show like they do at highland. I think it's safe to say you could count the amount of times they had a show start on time on one hand. The track itself was a little better after they reconfigured it for the fair sprint show. You could tell the dirt was just plain worn out due to the rough summer. I like the idea of the added banking in the turns if you can reconfigure the dirt/clay.

They need to go back and combine crates with regular late models if they're going to run both. The B mods had a dismal showing all season. There's no way you can cut the hornet class, as that's what's keeping the tracks afloat. I also don't understand the kidz mod class. At all. Seems like nothing but a money maker for Pierce.
