First off, It doesn't cost much more to wrap a car for me then to letter it. The class should look nice, it appeals more to the fans as a credible class when they do. Second, I also made it clear that this is the ONLY affordable class for some of us. You take that away and you'll have half the cars you have now. They can't afford to do that! With six or seven different winners this past season, it was the most competitive class out there. My car won the track championship with a rookie driver, and I try hard to help everyone in the Hornet class to make them all competitive as possible. By the way, I'm currently building a new car and anyone from the Fair board can stop by so I can show them just how little I spend to make a competitive car!Just heard from a reliable source that if you are a "career" hornet driver , you may want to find somewhere else to run. You all have said it. It is a beginner class. I like the list of drivers that Rob put on here. Only thing is, they moved up. Also was told that if they do stay, expect some drastic rule changes to get them back to a beginner class. Some guys are spending more on their wraps than they should be spending on their entire car. A Tech guy has already been found so all the changed computers, rear steer, and all the other fun stuff will be gone. Hope this makes some of you help with your racing decisions. Been a long time coming.
That is one of the biggest problems with that class. To many veterans. Rule change will let someone else have a chance to win. Your car with rookie driver did do well. I just dont understand how there were always three packs of cars. Fast cars not so fast and true learning cars????? I just hope they do it right and do not have to drop the class. At this point, I say be done with them and bring in something else.
As I remember This class was started x years ago because Highland Speedway was in financial trouble and needed a way to help get them out. So the hornet class was started and went over very well and still is a very good class. It brought alot of young racers into the sport and was and still is a very good starting level for the person that wants to race and doesnt have deep pockets. This is your warning If you were to drop that class it would put you back into a deeper hole than you are in now. The amount of money that this class brings in compared to what is paid out for this class would be no brainer and should never be considered to drop this class. It has nothing to do if you like watching this class are another better I do enjoy and have seen some of the best races time after time in this class. I have nothing to do with any class but I just thought I would put a little insight on why this class was started and why I feel they need to keep it

Midgets, micro,s or something like that would be great if they do away with hornets
its not that they are true learning cars, some people just dont know how to drive or are scared to go fast but they still want to try. and i dont know about you, but if i was to have never raced before and i wanted to i would rather go out and buy a hornet for maybe a grand and race it, rather than spending five grand or more on an upper class car. rob is right he helps out everyone anyway he can, so you cant just boot someone out of a class because they have raced in that division before. new racers can race for something the veterans cant, and thats rookie of the year. rookies can win it all too and that has obviously been proven. the hornets are a huge class at highland, and any track for that matter. in my opinion the hornets and street stocks put on a better show than the mods and the late models, theyre just more exciting, closer racing, and a heck of a lot cheaper.. just sayingThat is one of the biggest problems with that class.
Years ago when street stock was started there was a rule if you won the track championship you had to move up. so this has been tried before. Also yes i would like to see some open wheel races at highland but just like the late models guys will come for a little while then it to will fall off. theres not much highland can do with the track they have tried banking the corners more the groove just went to the top it was still 1 lane. with the ditch off the back straight redesigning the track is out. maybe make it smaller like belleville that might work.
I don't normally post on here but this is really starting to get ignorant.... The hornets are not a "beginner" class they are a low budget class. As long as the cars stay stock then who cares what they do to make them look better. Looks don't change how well you can drive. There was plenty of nights that the 47L spanked me and guess what.... His car doesn't have a wrap. I think it is great that people do what they can to make the cars look good in every class. And about this "boot the vets" crap... That's not going to solve any problems either. If you people want to get ignorant like that then you might want to start complaining about the great veteran drivers in the other classes like Harrison, kloos, Zobrist, korte, and the list can keep going. Just because others go out there and get their butts handed to them by those guys doesn't mean they want them to move up, they want to beat them!
