I was wondering if anybody can give me information on desoto speedway, when it closed where exactly is it located, is it still there or is it a subdivision like st.charles speedway? any and all info is appreciated, just curious. Also I'm not a computer whiz, so maybe somebody who is could start a webpage or forum just on closed tracks, like they have for drive-in movie theaters.

I could be wrong but I think the last year for the track may have been 1976 or 1977.

Been a while since I looked for it, but you may be able to find it on google earth. Someone was trieng to reopen it back in the mid 90's but the county would not go for it.

didn't they call turns three and four gasoline hill? best i can remeber if a car went over the bankin in that turn and came back up on track without wrecker assistance they gave the driver 5 gallons of gas and it was a steep enbankment.

rustys mom,pam tried to get it up and running but as stated the county would have non of it,,belive it or not allied ran the place for a while, and yes if ya took a hike off the back stright you could end up in a tree..or a 100 ft down the hill..

Being lazy, so I cut and pasted the paragraph below off our web site. We list several past and current tracks from Southeast Missouri, going about as far north as DeSoto ...

DeSoto Speedway • The quarter-mile dirt oval track also was known as D&F Speedway. It operated weekly from the mid 1960s to 1978 and featured an A-class and B-class. Among the track's noteworthy features was a dangerously steep drop behind the back straightaway that drivers referred to as "Thrill Hill".
