New LM Team from Clinton to Run in 2003!
By Tom Wilson

The weather was warm and the sun was bright this past Saturday as race cars with no scratches and fresh paint were put on display at the 2nd Annual “Wheels of Thunder’ show in the Benson Exhibition Hall in Clinton, Missouri.

And three of the 40 cars attending from around mid-Missouri were ready and set to go this season at the “Fast-Action Excitement Track”, Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg.

A new racing team is ready to roll on the high-banks this summer with two new Late Model machines. Clinton’s Bruce Curry, who took top honors in the ‘big-body’ class in 2001 at CMS by not only being the rookie of the year but the class’ championship as well, has his immaculate #33 car ready to fire-up. But this year, he’s picked up a team mate.

After helping Curry in the pits for a couple of years, 41 year-old Daren Rapp, also from Clinton, has decided he’s “got the bug” and with Curry’s help built an all-fresh Late Model entry.
“I’ve never raced anything before, but heck, I thought I’d give it a try,” said Rapp. “If nothing else, I’m going to have a great time doing it.”

Rapp’s car is another beautiful racer and carries twice the number mentor Curry carries on his car; 66.

Also showing off his competitive wares was Wellington’s Jim Davis. Davis had a big year last season in his Winged Outlaw Four-Cylinder Sprint car and is already to do it again.
“We got a lot of things straightened out last year, and I’m really anxious to get back on the track,” Davis enthusiastically said. “We were able to come on strong at the end of the season and came up high in the points run.”
In a week and a half the ‘pretty’ cars will become fast cars as the first practice session at CMS cranks off at noon on Saturday, April 5th.
