Columbus Speedway Returns With Thanksgiving Weekend Possum Town Grand Prix

Columbus, Mississippi (11/21/09) – With the Thanksgiving holiday weekend only a few days away, race fans are eagerly anticipating the 9th Annual Southern Belle Possum Town Grand Prix at “The Baddest Bullring in the South”, Columbus Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi, which will roar to life this Thursday through Saturday, November 26th-28th.

The 9th Annual Southern Belle Possum Town Grand Prix has grown into a huge event over the past few years. The 2008 edition of the event saw Mother Nature put a damper on the weekend, but the weather forecast for this year’s edition is looking great with mild temperatures and sunshine in the forecast.

Six divisions will be in action over the course of the weekend including Super Late Models, the NeSmith National Late Model Series, Late Model Stocks, Street Stocks, Open Wheel Modifieds, and the Cajun Mini Sprint Series. Calls have been rolling in from drivers from across the country including as far away as Michigan, Iowa, and Florida. A total field of possibly over 200 competitors from across the nation is expected for the huge event.

On Thursday, November 26th an Open Practice Session will be held from 6pm to 9pm. Pit admission is $15 with grandstand admission free.

On Friday, November 27th the action will truly heat up as the Super Late Models go into action in a $2,000 to win/$200 to start event. The NeSmith National Late Model Series will host their Weekly Racing Series Invitational on Friday night. The Late Model Stock division and Open Wheel Modified division will each contest a complete program for $500 to win. Street Stocks and the Cajun Mini Stocks will each see their heat races contested.

On Saturday, November 28th, the Super Late Model division will go into battle in a $3,000 to win/$200 to start event. The NeSmith National Late Model Series will contest a $2,500 to win program PLUS the NeSmith Race of Regions and NeSmith Race of Champions. Once again, the Late Model Stock and Open Wheel Modifieds will battle in their respective $500 to win programs, and the Street Stocks ($1,000 to Win) and Cajun Mini Stocks ($750 To win) will see their b-mains and main events take to the track. In addition on Saturday, the Race Car Raffle for Teresa Bloodworth will be held.

Gates open at 10a.m. on Friday and Saturday with the driver’s meeting at 1p.m. with hot laps to follow. There will be no day and night session as done in the past. The program will be run straight through with breaks taken as needed for track preparation.

Pit admission on Friday and Saturday is $30 and grandstand admission for adults $20 with kids 10 and under free.

Please note that Raceceivers and transponders are mandatory for all divisions and are available for rental at the track.
