Come on AARA what about a 4 cyl modified class?

CrumpRacing

Dirty on the bottom!
I think they should start a 4 cyl Modified class. Not a kids mod with a shortened wheel base but a true mod chassis running only hard tires, no computers and no throttle body. Implement weight rules based on cc's of motor.

This will get away from all the different makes and models out there currently, that there is really no way to tech.

Also,
- The cost wouldn't be any different from what the "some" current pro4/hornet teams are spending on aftermarket computers, engines, transmission and suspension. Been there done that! Its all happening... from removing trans gears (to lighten rotating weight), lightened and weld spools, $1000 computers, bigger throttle bodies and head work.
- Bring other mod drivers back that cant afford to run a mod at our local "high dollar" mod class.
- Much safer chassis!
- Same weight, roughly 2300 lbs. Cars would go fast enough to be entertaining!
- Current mod team can sell their old equipment and tires easier to help out teams that this class is supporting.
- Most drivers plan to move up in the future anyway... Hey look they already have a car they just need a motor (they can run an A mod or B mod). This again helps teams, engine builders and local circle track supply stores survive.
- Gain driver experience and set up knowledge from the beginning. This will even produce much better racing for the racers and fans for years to come.

Dont beat me up. This is just an idea.

I think it would pull strong car counts just as good if not better than the Pro 4's do currently.

From a spectator stand point, I disagree. Some nights all the Mods do is spin out and restart over and over...it makes for a very long night! I'm not a big fan of the Pro 4's either, but at least they get their business done.

My 2 cents

I don't think that would be an issue with a 200hp 4cyl. On a 10" tire with 5, 6 and even 700 + hp in our local mods the drivers right foot and set up is to blame for that, not the class. Also this will create more talented drivers that could put on a more consistant show.jmo

show me a "good" 4 cyl engine that you can find parts for cheap/easily that can run well without being computer reliant... and that everyone would agree on using

I can't speak for I-55, but I don't think that you could do this at B-ville. They already have 5 classes and with the cerfew that they have, I don't see how they would have time for another. Especially a class where there are no cars currently available.

jason i have seen some run with a mods befor and they were fast but just like some of the mini stocks around southeast mo and northeas ark. where i live people are putting 5 to 10 grand in their 2300 fords or toyota motors. so we would still have high dollar teams out spending the littler guys. but that being said if someone got a rule book to look over i would look at trying to get one together i think it would be worth looking at for me and where i hope to some day end up in racing.

I think you could use any 4 cyl not just one particular make. But to answer your question, 22R and 2300 are the two I would choose from, both have carb options and are in many different models in there respective make.

Brian, I agree, I don't think you should add a class to either track.

Dozer, unfortunately you run into that in every every class. Its racing... there isn't much low budget about it, unless you are just out to a fun and race when you can.

You can win anywhere in a Hornet/Pro-4/Sport Compact with less than $1500 in a car. If anyone is spending more then they are waisting their money!

Just go to the dealer and buy a 4cyl usac midget engine complete with injection for about $6500 and be done with it!!!

i would put one together for that class. i would put my boy in there and start him out racing that would be a good class.
