Scott Bloomquist, Don O’Neal, and Darrell Lanigan utilize COMP Cams® components to conquer big money shows during the 2010 Winternationals in Florida and Georgia

Each year in late January and early February the best of the best Dirt Late Model pilots head south to escape the clutches of Old Man Winter and to chase the big money prizes posted during the course of the annual Winternationals. The 2010 season has been no different so far as the top kamikaze pilots in the country have already been burning up the tracks.

Most notable early in the season has been COMP Cams® customer, Scott Bloomquist from Mooresburg, Tennessee, who has been experiencing nothing short of his best Speedweeks performance ever. The driver tabbed “Black Sunshine” kicked off the 2010 season with a $7,500 triumph at Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Georgia) during the annual Super Bowl of Racing, and then backed it up with a pair of top three finishes at the lightning-fast oval. After wreaking havoc in Georgia, Bloomquist invaded East Bay Raceway Park (Tampa, Florida), which has been a thorn in his side for most of his career. 2010 would prove to be the year that he vanquished the thorn as he picked up a $5,000 win and a $10,000 win, while also tallying two more top three finishes during the course of the Lucas Oil Late Model Series sanctioned events behind the wheel of his #0 Team Zero/Jay Dickens Powered entry.

Another COMP Cams® customer that enjoyed success with his Jay Dickens power plant at East Bay Raceway Park was Martinsville, Indiana driver, Don O’Neal. Coming into Speedweeks 2010, “The Real Deal” had amassed eleven feature wins in Winternationals action at East Bay Raceway Park, and O’Neal used a late race pass to rocket his way to win #12 and the accompanying $12,000 payday on Saturday, February 6th in the Lucas Oil Late Model Series event as the SPEED TV cameras captured all the action.

With the winter action shifting to Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida) for the next six nights, Darrell Lanigan captured the $7,000 winner’s check in the first round of the UMP DIRTCar Nationals on February 8th with his Cornett Thunder engine.

As COMP Cams® continues to provide individual drivers with the top notch, dependable valve train products that they demand, the company also is expanding its involvement in Dirt Late Model Racing as a whole. For the 2010 season, COMP® has been named as the title sponsor of the fast-growing, COMP Cams® MSRA Super Late Model tour as well as continuing their sponsorship of the 2010 Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series Engine Builder Challenge and the Topless 100 at Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Arkansas).
