While most southerners didn't own slaves, and weren't likely to ever be in a financial position to own slaves, most fought--or paid a "substitute" to fight-- for the posibility that they could one day theoretically own slaves.

But to say that the Civil War was not about slavery is not entirely true. What about the Missouri Compromise? Or Bleeding Kansas? Or the Dred Scott Case? :rolleyes:
 
It's so funny how if you make a racial or ethnic slur you are politically incorrect and considered to be an idiot. However, it's never wrong to cut down people who are fat. If you tell an N joke or one about a Jewish person you will be barbecued at the stake. But if you talk about the fat guy openly is fine and dandy.
FAT = THE ACCEPTABLE PREJUDICE...
