(Warrensburg, MO) The countdown to the biggest modified race and purse in the Greater Kansas City area this year has begun at CMS. In recent weeks, drivers have done their setup homework in order to decide upon the best race setups for the $1,000-to-win weekly top prize/$165-to-start feature event payout. Recent weekly race action at CMS in the modified division is just a small preview of what's in store for the big-money race! Who will lay claim to the $5,000 top prize on Saturday, July Fourth is anyone's guess; one thing is for certain, the race for the Sixth Annual Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl trophy and money will provide plenty of fireworks for fans and drivers alike. This is the final week to pre-enter/register for the July Third and Fourth races in order to save money. Driver entry forms for both Modifieds and B-Modifieds are printable from the track's official Webs site, which can be found at www.centralmissourispeedway.net, the July special event flyer is also posted on the Web site. Fans can also get in on the savings by purchasing a special two-day wrist band for their weekend admission. All pre-entries and registrations must be paid by this Saturday, June 27th! Same night entries are available for both the Modified and B-Modified specials for drivers and same night tickets are available for fans, but why wait, save your hard-earned money and get your forms in today!

Last week, forty-two 'mighty' modifieds were on hand for five heat races, two b-mains, and a feature event. To give you an idea of the competition level at CMS, the current modified point's leader Aaron Marrant, finished in the tenth position and it wasn't because Aaron had a bad run, the field in front of him was just extremely stout. Non-regulars such as Eric Turner, Johnny Fennewald, Tony Jackson, Kris Jackson, Jake Richards, and Dustin Boney joined CMS standouts Marrant, Tim Karrick, Jason Thompson, Dean Wille, Dave Meyer, Terry Schultz, Luke Feeback, Dennis Walrath, Ed Griggs, and James McMillin for the night's races. Heading into this weekend, which is week ten in the championship season, Marrant holds a 36-point lead over Karrick in second. Thompson and Wille are tied for third position with Dave Meyer still in the battle in fifth position despite missing a week of racing. The average car count for modifieds this year is 30 and there have been eight different winners in nine weeks. Only Jim Moody has rung the bell more than one in the modified division this year.

Last year's Late Model champion Jon Binning admittedly took longer to find victory lane this year than he had anticipated but after last week, there is no doubt the defending champ is back in top form. With his win last weekend in ULMA-sanctioned competition, Binning has regained the point lead from hard-luck driver Kevin Coyne, who had a top three finish in the works last weekend until a last-lap tangle, not of his own doing, relegated him to a disappointing thirteenth-place finish. Even still, Coyne, a two-time late model champion at CMS, is still within striking distance of new leader Binning. Steve Clancy, already a feature-race winner this year, is third overall with Randy Ainsworth fourth. A.L. Barbour and Robbie Test are tied for fifth. There were twenty-three late models on hand last weekend; this year's average late model count is 19 and there have been six different winners in six nights of competition!

The B-Modifieds have seen the most consistent car counts this year. On average, 25 B-mod racers have been on hand for the action; last weekend, there were 26 drivers signed in for racing. In nine feature events so far this year, six different winners have claimed a victory with Brad Smith (3) and Jacob Ebert (2) the only repeat winners. Ebert holds a thirty-two point lead over Lucas Isaacs, who is also a feature winner this year and currently residing second in points. Brian Ziegler has climbed his way to the upper echelon of the standings courtesy of his six top-five finishes. Michael King and last week's feature winner, Lucas Isaacs, sit close behind in fourth and fifth respectively.

An average of 15 Street Stock competitors have signed in to compete so far this year at CMS with four different drivers claiming feature-race wins. Brian Johnson (4), Chad Eickleberry (2), Terry Schultz (2), and Marc Carter (1) all own 2009 main event trophies. Fourteen drivers were on hand last week for a pair of wild heat races and a feature race that featured several lead changes among Johnson, Eickleberry, Carter, and fourteen-time track champion, John Brooks. Point leader Johnson appeared to be on the way to his fifth victory this year but Brooks wrestled the lead away from him in the mid stages of the event after Johnson had earlier claimed the top spot over early leader Eickleberry. In the race's waning laps, Carter found a faster line around Brooks and claimed his 36th-ever feature race win at the track, tying him for fourth on the CMS winner's list in the Earl and Susan Walls era. Johnson's point's lead was cut to just 22 markers by Michael Mullins in second. Last year's champion, Nic Bennet holds down the third spot with Eickleberry still in the championship hunt in fourth. John Ebert holds firm in fifth heading into this week's racing.
