(CHICKAMAUGA, GEORGIA) Dale McDowell made a last minute decision on
Saturday afternoon to hit the Southern AllStar Series event at Cleveland
Speedway in Cleveland, TN. The familiar Petroff Towing / J&J Steel / New
Vision Graphics #17m Larry Shaw / Racetek Grand Prix showed up for the
$5,000 to win Shamrock 60 and almost found its way into victory lane again
at Cleveland. Dale started fourth in the event and was running second late
in the 60-lapper when he started to work on leader Patrick Duggan for the
lead. He ended up trying to make a last-lap pass on Duggan for the lead and
the two made contact, causing Dale to spin and finish in the twelfth spot.
"It was a pretty good race at Cleveland the other night," said Dale from the
DMR shop on Monday. "Patrick (Duggan) was better on short runs than we
were, but we were really good on long runs. We got a long run late in the
race and we made a strong charge at him. I tried to make the pass on the
high side and he moved up a little to block me. Then I got a run on the
bottom on the last lap and tried to pass him down low. My right rear tire
and his left rear tire made contact and we wheel-hopped and it caused me to
spin out. It was a non-points race for us, so I figured I would try for the
win and gamble a little bit. The contact was just a racing deal and we will
just get back to points racing this weekend in Texas."
The next stop for Dale McDowell Racing will be in the Longhorn State of
Texas. Dale will compete this weekend in the World of Outlaws Late Model
Series events at the Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, TX. There will be a
practice session for the drivers on Thursday night, with the opening $5,000
to win event on tap for Friday. Saturday will feature a $12,000 to win WoO
