Dan Weldon Killed at Las Vegas

A terrible wreck to see. Had a bad feeling the way it all went down. R.I.P. to Dan Wheldon. Thoughts and prayers to Dan's family and friends during this time of sorrow. I'd also during this time like to say THANK YOU to EACH and EVERY racer who buckles up, risks their life, and races for our entertainment as fans. I just want you all to know I truly appreciate what you do each and every time you climb into the car and race.

If he must be taken from this place, at least he was doing what he loved the most.

Race on Dan.....Race on....

A bitter sweet day to day,,, We lost a great race driver to day God bless your family, Dan RIP,, I know you will, Tell my dad and Earnhart I said hey,,Then on ther other hand Cards win,,,Hope all the other drivers are ok and recover well,,

Champion off-road racer Rick Huseman was killed in a plane crash near Barstow, California on the same day Dan weldon lost his life...

sad day to see someone like wheldon killed, but when will the indy series realize that without a true cage around the drivers, there is always going to be this chance. and by no means do i mean any disrespect, i was a fan of wheldons, but how many drivers have been killed or had career ending injuries because of the lack of a "true" roll cage in these cars? maybe the indy series will take a page out of the nascar books and create some new safety standards for the cars and everything

No one is requiring the drivers to strap in and go the speeds they achieve. They do it for the thrill of danger and competitiveness. I think the decisions to take the risks should be up to the drivers and their family's and no one else.

The aero package these cars are running keeps these cars stuck to the track. Just like a plate race, they can pin the throttle and can't get away from each other. 225 mph going in the corner on a 1.5 mile track is crazy,I'm just saying...RIP,Dan.

I'm not an Indy racer by any stretch but a statistic taken from the Indy Tech page portion of their web site says a car weighs 1525 lbs and generates 5000 lbs of down force. That's amazing!

Jmo but these cars could be made more safer. Maybe with this tragic crash the series will look at more changes then the ones already in place for 2012 season. It was terrible to watch and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends..
