Daum and Cockrum take C.A.R.S. Feature Wins at Mt.Vernon
Zach Daum proved to be the "Dauminator" Saturday night at the Mt.Vernon Raceway in Mt.Vernon, IL winning the make up feature from 6-10-06. Daum was able to work both the high side and the low side in route to his first ever C.A.R.S. Weekly Racing Series victory. With only five laps to go Daum was able to get under C.A.R.S. third place points man, Ray Emling, Jr and with two laps to go Daum went to the high side to pass C.A.R.S. WRS regular Chuck Still for the lead. Daum never looked back taking his first ever C.A.R.S. Weekly Racing Series victory. Chuck Still finished in the second position with Ray Emling, Jr finishing in the third position.
With 19 cars on hand in the second feature Benton Illinois, Shane Cockrum held off second place C.A.R.S. WRS points man "Mr. Excitement" Danny Jolly to take his third C.A.R.S. WRS victory of the year. Cockrum took the lead from his second place starting position coming out of turn two on lap number one and was able to hold Jolly off as Jolly made several attempts to take the top spot. Cockrum lead every lap of the second feature event with Danny Jolly finishing second. Steve Cole finished in the third position with "Fast" Eddie Pursell taking his second fourth place finish of the night. A hard charging Rylan Dagg rounded out the top five in the strong field of 19 C.A.R.S. WRS Crate Late Models.
