With cool weather and a fast race track it was obvious from the outset that it was going to be a battle in all three classes as Central Missouri Speedway presented the KMMO/DARE Kids Night to the throngs of fans in attendance.

The Mighty Modifieds took to the track and after several unsuccessful attempts at a start the green flag finally stayed out and Tim Karrick found himself out front pacing the field with Bobby Layne hot on his heels looking to take over the top spot. The yellow flag would wave as the first lap was completed for the machine of Tom Charles who came to a stop in turn one with broken front suspension which would end his evening early. Once the field went back to green Karrick still paced the field and had opened up a five car length advantage on Dave Meyer who had worked his way into the second spot. The yellow flag would wave once again on lap seven as officials worked quickly to clear debris that had fallen onto the track. This would also be the end of the run by Karrick as he retired to the pits during the caution with broken rear suspension handing the lead over to Meyer which he never would relinquish. With the green flag waving Meyer mashed the loud pedal and worked the track to perfection as he held on the rest of they way to bring home his W&M Welding/Western Auto Racing backed machine to the Winner's Circle. Bobby Layne and point leader Gary Blackburn Jr. waged war running side by side for the last of the race with Layne prevailing and taking home the runner-up position and Blackburn settling for third. Richard Layne and Jimmy Dowell rounded out the top five as the field crossed the line in the event. Tim Karrick, Bobby Layne, Mike Striegel, and Dave Meyer also found themselves with heat wins earlier in the evening.

The Limited Late Model's saw a hard charger finally able to snare his first win of the season as Ryan Lovercamp found himself in the winner's circle for the first time in 2004. At the hit of the throttle Lovercamp wasted little time working his way to the front, but Jim Wilson had plans of his own to take over the top spot doing so briefly during the second lap. That was the last chance that any of the field had catching Lovercamp as he then motored out in front and began to quickly pull away. Wilson would give it his all in attempting to close the straight away lead that Lovercamp built up as they began working lapped traffic on lap seven, but the Concordia resident had it all going his way and sliced his way through to keep his advantage in tact. At the checkered flag Lovercamp had lapped up to the sixth place car in taking the win with Wilson, Steven Clancy, point leader Kevin Coyne, and Shawn Williams filling out the top five runners at the finish. Lovercamp and Lance Elwell came across the line with heat races wins earlier on in the night.

Marc Carter has made a habit of running at the front of the Street Stock division and his dominance of the class continued as he took another win in an already impressive year that the Warrensburg resident is having. The green flag waved and Carter quickly jumped out from his outside front show starting spot to take the lead over pole sitter Herb Danner and the rest of the field. Once out front Carter moved away from the pack rapidly and even through two early cautions would hold onto his spot at the front of the field. Encountering heavy lapped traffic on lap four Carter would make several daring moves that had the fans on their feet as he sliced his way through to widen his lead over the rest of the field. When the checkered flag finally came down Carter raced across the line nearly one-third a lap ahead of second running Fred King Jr. with Wayne Stevens, Bob King, and Donald Dannar in tow to complete the top five in the running order. Carter, along with Herb Danner and Donald Dannar, also made the trip home with heat race wins on the night.

During intermission a special foot race was held on the frontstretch for all of the kids in attendance to come and compete in. Split up into age groups of 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12 there were races for both the girls and boys to run in with some great prizes for everyone who competed. Everybody who came down received a goodie bag filled with items donated by drivers, sponsors, and fans with the winners receiving a medallion commemorating their win. Winners of this years foot races were: Faith Griggs (3-4 year old girls), Jace Allen Coe (3-4 year old boys), Ramsey Pine (5-6 year old girls), Casey Elfer (5-6 year old boys), Mackenzie Walls (7-8 year old girls), David Goodrich (7-8 year old boys), Hannah Meyer (9-10 year old girls), Levi Brown (9-10 year old boys), Savanah Ernewein (11-12 year old girls), Bryce Collier (11-12 year old boys).

Pit Notes:
-The Meyer family has made a habit of doubling up on victories on Kids Night at CMS. Two years ago Dave's young son took home the win followed by dad taking the Modified checkers later in the night. This year they duplicated the feat with Hannah winning the 9-10 year old girls division and Dave holding on for the win during the Modified main.

-The entire crew at Central Missouri Speedway would like the thank the fans, drivers, and sponsors who all donated items for the Kids Night activities. The generosity of all was appreciated. A big thank you also goes out to all of the adults who came down and helped to "corral" all of the youngsters and get them ready for their races.

-The see-saw battle for the Street Stock points lead continued as Marc Carter stepped back to the front of the class by virtue of his win. With four points events left for the street stocks the battle is still wide open and won't be settled until the final checkered flag falls on the final night.

-It looked as though the up and down years of two veteran drivers were going to run around on Saturday, but unfortunately the tough luck that they have encountered in 2004 continued. Tim Karrick motored to his heat win and paced the Modified feature for the first portion until a suspension arm broke causing the Basehor, KS resident to retire to the pits. Tom Charles has also suffered through a disappointing season and looked like he would break out of his slump as well, but contact at the beginning of lap two of the feature sent the Bonner Spring, KS veteran spinning and retiring behind the tow truck with broken suspension on the right front. Look for both of these drivers to break out of their slumps before seasons end and be back at the front where they are accustomed to running.
