Byram, Mississippi (November 15, 2003) - "I don't know how I missed that one." Those were the only words from David Breazeale as he sat on the front stretch waiting for the track to be clear following one a huge pileup on the front stretch at Jackson Motor Speedway. Breazeale just did manage to avoid the big tangle when he shot between Kenny Merchant and Jon Mitchell as the race was being restarted on lap 34. This proved to be the winning move as Breazeale was able to hold off Jody Prince and David Ashley over the final 16 laps to take the win.

The big tangle began when Richie Cauthen broke while leading the field down the front stretch. Kenny Merchant was to his outside and ended up taking the brunt of the impact as the field piled up ending up in turn one. Ten cars were involved in the tangle with seven cars eliminated on the spot (Cauthen, Merchant, Rushing, Jimmy Cliburn, George Paul and Jason
Cliburn) while the others continued in one form or another. Duncan never left the track and for a moment it appeared he might be on the verge of surpassing Scott Slay in the battle for the Mississippi State Championship Challenge but Slay return with what was left of his race car to run a few more laps to secure a top 10 finish and the title.

The race started out with Jon Mitchell using his outside starting
position to power into the lead with Dennis Duncan and Kenny Merchant in tow. Mitchell bucked the American Racer tire trend and used his Hoosiers tires to pull to the early lead. Mitchell led until lap 30 but by that time a five-car battle for the lead had broken out for between Mitchell, Cauthen, Merchant, Breazeale and Duncan. Cauthen had stormed from 14th starting spot and took the lead on lap 31. Three laps later all heck broke loose.

Six heat races were run and James Ward led things off by taking the first heat from the third starting spot. Dennis Duncan did Ward one better in the second heat racing from 7th to take the win and the B&K Underground Top Qualifier award. Jon Mitchell repeated Duncan's feat to earn the outside pole in the third heat. Marlon Wild grabbed the lead from the outside pole in heat 4 to take the win. Things took a turn for the worse in heat five as
a front stretch tangle saw Mike Boland end up on his roof. When the dust settled, Jody Prince took the win. Kenny Merchant then charged from 6th to take the final heat race win. Jimmy Cliburn started on the pole and claimed the first last chance race with Anthony Rushing doing the same in the second last chance race.

49 Late Models were on hand.
