CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Feb. 9) -- The second night of USRA Limited Mod action at the Sparkling City Nationals saw Cade Dillard in victory lane for the second night in a row Sunday at the South Texas Speedway in Corpus Christi.
Only a runner-up finish in the second heat race Sunday kept the 22-year-old from Robeline, La., from a two-night clean sweep as he collected $1,500 for Sunday's win to bring his weekend take to $2,500.
After a dominating wire-to-wire win on Saturday, Dillard took the lead from Tanner Whitmire with three laps in the books and then sailed the final 17 circuits to pick up the win on Sunday in a fog-drenched contest.
Gabe Tucker held off Tracy Denby Jr. for second, with teammates J.J. Jennings and Johnny Torres rounding out the top 5 finishers.
USRA Limited Mods will be back in action next Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13-15, with three nights under the lights with the USMTS Modifieds at the Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas, for the 5th Annual Texas Spring Nationals presented by Double H Bands.
The event will pay $500 to win Thursday night's main event, $1,000 to win on Friday and $1,500 to win Saturday's USRA Limited Mod finale at the state-of-the-art 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval which features a main grandstand seating capacity of 7,500 with 14 VIP luxury suites and a modern Musco Lighting system suitable for television productions.
An open practice on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 6-9 p.m. will get the party started for next weekend's tilt.
