Discuss: It's Time For 360's in St. Louis

Aren't most Sprint car sanctions a traveling series? Are the Farmington cars sanctioned?

Farmington's sprint cars are not sanctioned. Farmington runs open rules on the sprint cars. They only rule in the sprints at farmington is that they must run a certain RR tire. On any given night you will see a few 305's, as well as a few 360's that run with the 410's.

I think it is a 3/8 mile or a 1/3. It is D- shaped, they have a good photo of it on their website which you can go to from here. It is a fun track to watch racing on and they have a very loyal fan base. They even have a sprint car sitting on top of a 40 foot sign pole by the highway. I go there if I am at St. Joe on Saturday afternoon, it is only a couple miles up the road.

I was just curious if the Sprints had sanctions like the stock cars do as far as local shows. What about Fredrock and their 305's?

There seriously isn't one track in Illinois that has Sprints weekly??????

No, as far as i know, there isn't any sanctioning bodies for weekly local sprint cars in the midwest, as least not in the MO/IL area.

Do you think that hurts them or is there just not that many of them left in the area. I think it would help the car count if an Illinois track picked up the class weekly. The tracks in Illinois seem to do very well with Friday night shows and it would compliment Farmington for a full weekend of Sprints. Lose the wing and they would appeal more to stock car fans.

Belleville needs Midgets every Friday night. What a show.

Sprints

For someone to deny that late models rule in this area is absolutely rediculous. If Sprints were so big here, I-55 would have kept them. Anytime there is any sort of special late model show around here, the grandstands fill almost to capacity. If Sprints could do that consistantly here, you'd see them a lot more. These promotors are business people. They'll sell whatever sells. Sprint cars might be an interesting novelty, but late models put butts on the bleachers. That's just the fact of the matter.

I'll reiterate, either Highland or I-55 will pick up crates before one of our four local tracks picks up sprints.

I guess you never have been to an Outlaw show at I-55 the bleachers are crammed and people are standing . Go to the show Aug. 7th & 8th it will be awesome.

The Outlaws travel with a lot of their fans. There are people from all over country that follow those guys. The Sprints at Pevely are not that good of a race. The only thing cool about them there is how fast they go, as far as racing, the Modified feature is always better. We spend half the night watching Ray make laps on the tractor. Pevely needs to dump the Outlaws in favor of either USAC Sprints or Silver Crown.

The open wheel shows at Tri-City have not been hurt by the absence of the Outlaws. The WOO are bad fast, but the 'racing' diminishes throughout the night as the track gets pounded by the 410 power and downforce from those huge wings. The classic sprinters don't seem to have that problem.

I just watched a youtube video of the USAC Sprints on a 1/8 mile dirt track. That would be worth spending money to see. I couldn't even imagine that at Belleville. Those small cars are made for a small track. Just lose the wing, it makes the racing so much better.

I've been a pretty big fan of sprint car racing for about the last 15 years. I have never got the chance to see non wing sprint cars. I'll get my first non wing show this Thursday night down in West Memphis.

I think the 360's are more toward the West. I have been to LOS a couple times this year and when the WOW isn't running they get a good turn out. I think if you are going to make a change in the area you have to get some people together about running non 410 no 360. If you do your maint right a 410 non motor will last all year. There is no doubt that non wing sprint cars and midgets put on the best show for a dirt race. Also if I-55 had a non wing show it would have to be prepped right in order to have a good show. There isn't enough water on that track in order to run a non wing show. When SCRA was here years ago with Yeley and that group they had standing water on the track before hot laps. It was enough water that you walked up to the track and didn't think they would be able to run. Both shows were great though.

yes!

USAC sprints and/or midgets at Pevely? that would be amazing. those guys put on the best show on dirt by far... as for 360's it's a cool concept but cant see it going over big for quiet a few years. Vermillion County Speedway in Danville is the only track in Illinois that runs weekly sprints, non wing though, in case anyone was still wondering.

forgot about Dannville.....if you ventured into indiana I think Kokomo, Lawrenceburg, Bloomington, and Gas City run them weekly as well.

360 vs. 410?

Okay open-wheel people, help a stockcar guy understand something, please... Is the ONLY rules differences between a 360 and 410 sprint the cubic inch limit?

305-360-410, cubes are basically the only difference between all of em.
305's are stuck with stock steel block and steel blocks may be the case with 360's. But a sprint car is a sprint car, may be different weight, wing size and tire rules between different tracks and organizations. But I can take my 305 car and run with the 410's @ Farmington or Jacksonville.
