Lincoln, Ill. (July 3) – Ernie Dodd maneuvered around early leader Jeff Moe and held off constant pressure from Gary Fox to claim the 30-lap Freedom 2005 Challenge Wynn’s Sportsman Qualifier at Lincoln Speedway. Dodd worked traffic to perfection and took his second career win and first at Lincoln. Fox was unable to wrestle the top spot away on two late restarts and settled for second. Bobby Morgan, Moe, and Greg Kimmons finished in the top five. By virtue of consistency throughout the three day swing that began at Jacksonville and Fairbury, Brandon Roberts celebrated the Freedom 2005 Championship.
Chris Tackett ended Terry Miller’s two-race win streak after leading the majority of the 15-lap Street Stock main. The victory was Tackett’s second at the Logan County Fairgrounds ¼-mile. Miller had a run on Tackett with four laps remaining, but a caution killed the run and put Tackett in control of the restart. Tackett held on ahead of Miller, Larry Russell, Jr., Roy Magee, and Brian Mileham.
Another Lance entered victory lane during the Late Model 20-lapper. Tim Lance held off a last ditch effort from brother and current point leader Steve Lance, Jr. to claim his first Lincoln Speedway win by less than a foot. Rick Haley finished in third, while Shane Allen and Gary Shields completed the top five.
J. R. Eskew started on pole and never looked back during the Wild Thing 15-lapper. Eskew was never challenged as Bob Sanders held off Steve Huffman for second. Damon Jones and Brad Leonard rounded out the top five.
The Outlaw Wingless Sprint Cars return in one week to the Lincoln Speedway. UMP Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Wild Things fill out the card. The following Friday, the UMP Summernationals will make its inaugural appearance at Lincoln. The 40-lap main will pay $10,000 to the winner.
