Inside Line Promotions - WEST FARGO, N.D. (Aug. 21, 2018) - Dominic Scelzi was on pace for a top-10 result during both World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series races last weekend.

Scelzi kicked off the doubleheader on Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., during the 2nd Leg of the Northern Tour. He qualified 15th quickest and overcame an incident in a heat race to post a fifth-place finish, which locked him into the 15th starting position for the A Main.

"The right rear tire went flat in the heat race, but we were able to get it changed and get back to fifth," he said. "It seemed like we were on the inside on every restart during the feature. That wasn't where we needed to be, but we got to seventh and were racing with Rico (Abreu) with Sheldon (Haudenschild) right in front of us. I felt like we could have run inside the top five. We were really good off turn two and off turn four. Guys were starting to slow down a bit."

Unfortunately, Abreu and Haudenschild made contact entering turn one with only a handful of laps remaining. The duo slid up the track and Scelzi had nowhere to go. He was shoved off the track and had to restart at the back of the pack. Scelzi rallied in the closing laps to finish 12th.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Red River Valley Speedway during the Duel in the Dakotas. Scelzi timed in seventh quickest - out of 28 drivers - in qualifying before he placed fourth in a heat race.

"We went out late so I was really happy with qualifying seventh," he said. "We were pretty good in the feature. I was running around the top. The track was extremely slick and wide. I just burned my tires off. At that point I started losing ground. I knew I was in trouble so I started searching and we backed up. That's just part of racing. It was definitely a learning moment."

Scelzi hung on for a 16th-place result.

He is scheduled to race this Friday at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, S.D., during the Rushmore Outlaw Showdown and Saturday at Big Sky Speedway in Billings, Mont., during the NAPA Auto Parts & Visit Billings presents the Big Sky Brawl at Big Sky Speedway with the World of Outlaws.
