Earl Pearson Jr. and the Dunn-Benson Ford Motorsports Team Finish 3rd in Columbus Mississippi,
Heads to Georgia For Two Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Events

Dunn, NC (October 2, 2006) - The Dunn-Benson Ford Motorsports team and driver Earl Pearson Jr. competed in Columbus Mississippi over the weekend in the Magnolia State 100 at Columbus Speedway. Earl who has won an event earlier this year at Columbus Speedway was excited and confident about competing in the 100-lap $25,000 to win feature event at a track that the team has consistently ran well at. Earl would start the event off on Friday by qualifying 5th out of the 83 drivers in attendance. Earl would bolt from his 4th starting position in the fifth heat race and go onto win his heat race earning a front row starting position for the 100-lap feature event on Saturday.

At the start of the 100-lap feature event Earl would jump into the lead and pace the field for the first five laps before relinquishing the lead to Don O’Neal on lap 6. Earl would battle hard with O’Neal, Jimmy Owens, Chris Wall and Wendell Wallace in the early stages of the event. Columbus Speedway always known for exciting racing action was again a well prepared racing surface as often Pearson was racing three wide for position. In the end of the 100-lap feature Earl would finish a strong 3rd place behind winner Don O’Neal and second place finisher Wendell Wallace. “We had a really good car but towards the end our tires faded a little and we lost some traction that hurt us from racing O’Neal and Wallace. O’Neal was clearly the dominate car tonight and always a tough competitor here in Columbus”, stated Earl.

With his third place finish over the weekend Earl and the Dunn-Benson Ford Motorsports team completed the month of September as the hottest race team in the country with impressive results. Earl’s month of September results included a Carolina Clash feature win paying $5,000 to win in Fayetteville North Carolina on September 2nd, a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series feature win in the “Hillbilly 100” paying $25,000 to win in West Virginia on September 3rd, the biggest win of his career at the prestigious $39,000 to win “World 100” at Eldora Speedway in Ohio September 9th, then followed that win with a second place finish at another Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned event in West Virginia on September 16th and a solid third place finish this past weekend in Columbus Mississippi. The Dunn-Benson Ford Motorsports team recorded 3 wins, a 2nd and a 3rd place finish in 5 events in the month of September.

Earl and the Dunn-Benson Ford Motorsports team will travel to the state of Georgia for a pair of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned events this weekend. Earl currently has 3 wins on the touring series and leads the national point’s standings by 325 points over Don O’Neal with 5 events remaining on the series in 2006. “Were excited about going to Rome Speedway again. I really like that track and it’s always a good racy place. I would also like to address some of the rumors and questions about by our decision to race in Columbus Mississippi this past weekend. There were several factors that played into our decision on where we raced at last weekend. Our relationship with Lucas Oil is our first priority and we talked to Forest Lucas about our racing schedule. Forest has always and still is our biggest supporter and fan or our team. Since the Knoxville event was not a points event and was not sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, Forest Lucas told us that we should race anywhere we felt was the best business decision for our team and he supports us 100% no matter where we raced at last weekend. With the team based in North Carolina and with me living in Florida the haul to Knoxville versus the trip to Mississippi was twice as far. We attended last years event and had two weeks after the event to prepare for the next Lucas Oil series points event. When Knoxville changed their date this year it only gave us 4 days to prepare between that event and two series points events on Friday and Saturday in Georgia this coming weekend. We really enjoy racing at Columbus Speedway in Mississippi and everyone from the staff to the fans are always very receptive to us being there. Hopefully Knoxville will consider the schedule dates of all the late model races next year when they schedule their event”, stated Earl from his home in Jacksonville.
