Farmer City Raceway held the season opener Friday night, with a record setting 225 cars on hand in 5 divisions and a full house in the grandstands. 38 late models and 57 modifieds took time trials, with Lance Dehm fastest for the mods and Ryan Dauber breaking his own late model track record, which now sits at 12.348 seconds. Heat races for the mods had winners of Lance Dehm, Matt Goulden, Wes McClara, Denny Schwartz, Jay Ledford and Scott Bull. Semis went to Derek Neville, Steve Ewing and Wes O'Dell. The mods put on the best show of the evening, with 57 on hand, great heats and a non stop feature. Lance Dehm led most of the feature, at one point checking out on the field until breaking with just a few laps to go. Last years UMP National Champion Denny Schwartz went on to the victory with Jeff Leka hounding him, finishing second. The fast duo was trailed by Scott Bull, Nick Neville, Jay Ledford, Gary Cook Jr, Aaron Ricketts, Derek Neville and Dave Porth.
The first late model heat went to Ryan Dauber over Joe Harlan and Mike Mullvain. Second heat went to Bret Sievert over Joe Ross Jr and Jason Feger. Third heat went to Kevin Weaver in a spirited battle over Roger Long and Donny Walden. Fourth heat went to Matt Taylor over Richie Hedrick and Dan Walden. Fifth heat went to Wes Steidinger over Daren Friedman and defending track champ Eric Smith. The first semi went to Ryan Unzicker over Butch Smith and Jamie Zidar, and the second semi went to Ryan Little over Jimmy Felker Jr and Jeremy Conaway.
The feature was a yellow flag affair, and honestly, I lost track at the eighth yellow on lap 10. Bret Sievert took the lead at the green, but Matt Taylor took command on the second lap and never gave up control, winning his first Farmer City feature of the season. Bret Sievert came home second in Jamie Zidar's backup car, with Richie Hedrick, Ryan Dauber, Daren Friedman, Joe Harlan, Jason Feger, Jamie Zidar, and Eric Smith rounding out the lead lap cars, followed by Dan Walden and Mike Mullvain as the only other finishers.

Good Lord, what time did they actually start racing if they time trialed 95 cars?
