Lee Cooper becomes Fastrak Late Model first repeat winner in 2006!!

Lee Cooper takes the Southern Region points lead following Saturday nights event at West Georgia Speedway.
With the largest crowd on hand the Speedway has seen all year this night was sure one for the fans to remember. Cooper, from the State of South Carolina became the season’s first repeat winner as he earned his $2000.00 first place prize.

Anthony Meadows, the series early season points leader, sat a record pace for the pole with a time of 15:02. That earned Meadows the pole position in the six lap dash. Anthony Meadows, Lee Cooper, Dana Eiland, Justin Sims and Tony Kemp set the field for the six car dash. The 18s of Sims having a mechanical problem, did not make the dash. Cooper won the dash earning the pole for the feature event.

Heat one would see the Fastrak East Alabama winner Jody Knowles take the lead and win heat one with local track champion Glen McWaters following close behind. Heat two would Glen Herrington and Ronnie Tullis on the points as Tullis became the eventual winner.

The attention turned towards the driver autograph session in the grandstands. Series Director Jody Palmer was quoted as saying this was one of the most successful autograph sessions of the season. “People were standing in line waiting on autographs”. The drivers were then introduced on the front straight. Before getting into their cars for the main event they then threw the tennis balls into the stands to the fans. The Fastrak tennis ball throw has cash in each and everyone for “fan appreciation”.

The field was set and the drivers were ready for the 50 lap main as they did their “salute to the fans” in a three wide lap around the track. The initial start of the race saw the 45 car of Ronnie Tullis roll down the front straight as he landed on his roof with Tullis escaping unharmed. The restart saw Cooper taking the lead with Meadows hot on his bumper. 2004 Rookie of the Year AJ Watson saw one of his best finishes of the season finishing 9th for the evening. Looked like Watson had definitely learned something while on his trip to Missouri for the “Triple Crown” weekend. Cooper maintained a five to six car lead while eventually lapping a few cars on his way to his second Fastrak feature event win of the year and spoiling the ‘no repeat winners” for the Southern Region. Top five were Cooper, Meadows, Kemp, Knowles and Daniels.
