(MARION, IL) The Fastrak Champions Series Midwest Region is now accepting membership applications for the 2006 Midwest Region Touring Series. Fastrak Midwest Region drivers will be eligible to qualify for the $250,000 National Championship points fund by racing in the Midwest Region Touring Series. The 2006 Fastrak National Champion will receive a grand prize of $50,000, and the championship points fund pays out to the top 50 places.

The Fastrak Champions Series is unique among sanctions in that it is the only National Late Model Championship decided on the track in head to head competition; it is not based on point accumulation over an entire season. Stan Lester, founder of the Fastrak Champions Series, created this system for two basic reasons; to make the title of Fastrak National Champion an honor earned on the track, and to provide racers who do not have huge travel budgets an opportunity to win the Fastrak National Championship title.
“Racing for a championship title should be about beating the competition door to door, bumper to bumper on the track, not buying a title by racing more nights than the next guy” Lester says. “In order to ensure that the Fastrak National Champion has earned the title by beating all comers, and to make it fair for the weekend guys who just don’t have the money to travel multiple nights every week to get good finishes and accumulate points, we decided to just have a minimum level of participation at Fastrak events throughout the season to qualify for the Fastrak Nationals. After making the minimum amount of races to go to the Nationals, it’s completely up to the racer how often they race. That saves them money; money they can use if they want to go to the Nationals and race for the title.”

The National Championship is scheduled for Oct. 11-14, 2006. Wednesday, Oct. 11 will be an open practice day for all qualified drivers. Thursday, Oct. 12 is the opening night featuring a $2,000 to win 50 lap main event. Day two is Friday, Oct. 13 with a $2,500 to win 50 lap feature. The grand finale is Saturday, Oct. 14 featuring a $3,000 to win 50 lap main event. The racer with the most points after the three day shootout takes home the title of Fastrak National Champion and the $50,000 winners check.

In an effort to promote an equal opportunity for all drivers at the Nationals, the venue for the event will not be announced until Sept. 1, 2006. To qualify for the three day Nationals, drivers only have to compete in 51% of events at a Fastrak weekly sanctioned track, or 51% of the Regional Touring Series events.

The Fastrak Midwest Region Touring Series schedule will be released on May 1, 2006. All dates on the schedule released on May 1 will be qualifying races for the National Championship. Drivers who wish to qualify for the National Championship shootout through competing in the Midwest Region Touring Series will be required to compete in 51% of the races on the May 1, 2006 schedule.

Must be a shot at UMP. The CEO sounds like a politician, throw a bunch of crap out there and hope some of it sticks.
