Fellow racers, Can you help me?

K.D.C.S.
I recently sold my racecar on this website. It was a ministock, a cheap beginner car. I posted pics and wrote the ad as detailed as I could. So here's the deal. The guy who bought it just called and chewed me out over a problem I wasn't aware of. He said the dipstick (oil) has jb weld around the end of it. I did not catch this because I am not a mechanic. I know very little about engines, therefore I always get help when it comes to the mechanical part of the car. I don't mess with the engines. So he wants me to refund his money and take the car back, or he will have the problem fixed and send me the bill. I do realize that in a sense, I am at fault for not catching the problem, and am very sorry I didn't catch it, but I told him everything I knew about the car. And the whole reason we sold the car was our financial situation. We needed the money.
I have bought and sold things off the classifieds forum before, but never had this problem. I bought something once and it had problems, but I didn't take it to this extent. I figured I bought it over the web, as is, so it was my problem and I took care of it. In this case, I don't know what to do. I've never had any negative feedback from a buyer. Now this man is trying to get ahold of Jimmy Dearing and tear me up on here. So i'm confused. This man read my ad, looked at the pics, called me and said he had the money and he would send someone down here (from Illinois) to get it. Two days later his neighbor was here with the money and a trailer.

Am I at fault for not catching this, or is he for not even coming and looking the car over and making sure it is what he wanted.
I am not a bad person, I'm always detailed and honest about the things i'm selling. This has now made me feel like a bad person. What should I do???

He said the dipstick (oil) has jb weld around the end of it. The way i decipher what you are saying is.. the dipstick tube is epoxied to the block? If thats the extent of the situation, i'd say he still owns a ministock. Buyers remorse is most likely the culprit.

Mike, This man bought a race car, he should of came to look at it himself and not sent someone else to get the car. U was honest and told him everything i knew about the car. I wouldnt sweat it to much, its a risk u take when u buy something USED online, espically when he didnt even come to look at the car. You have always been an honest guy and i dont think you would screw someone on purpose.

Personally, I would not buy a vehicle without looking at it myself. I am no mechanic either, but I know enough to check certain things out before you make the deal. I recently traded my truck on another truck that I knew had a few problems I was aware of. The one I was not aware of, I was informed today is going to cost me an extra $400.00. The chance you take when buying anything used. He should have checked it out himself before the deal was done. If he had, mabey he finds the problem, lets you know, he finds out how much for the repair, you two mabey work out a deal for the car, everyone is happy. The way it stands, buyer beware. You advertised it USED, he should have checked for himself. From what I read, you seem like an honest guy, no fault on your part. The deal is done & over.

I think you are in the right here.
Not that it matters... did the person who came to pick up the car look it over?

you were honest about what you knew its up to the buyer to check it out BEFORE HE /SHE PAYS. he has no recourse for legal action against you. id agree thats it is prolly buyers remorse. a buyer should always do his homework especially when you are buying racing equipment because you never just never know.

dip stick

race cars are sold on here daily, if a buyer looks a car over, and buys it , it's his.I'm a tech in a lube shop and see cars daily with this done .oil stick tubes are pressed in, over time taking the stick in and out may losen the tube,I've seen jb weld ,permatex, epoxey, any thing to keep the tube in.But this doesn't have any effect on the running of the engine.

I was curious what he meant by that, maybe thats it. I think theres something else he don't like about it. Besides if I remember it came with another block, not that anythings wrong with epoxying the tube to the block. We use to do it all the time on our dirt cars.

I sometimes buy stuff on ebay sight unseen that doesn't turn out to be as great as I thought. I know that when I bid. With the price tag you had on it and all the extras, He definatly has something worth the money that he can work with.

In fact I came and looked at the car and you coulda put a radiator in it and pretty much took it to the track. When I looked at it there were a few things that I didn't like (not bad things), so I didn't buy it.

If I were him I would take it like a ebay purchase......

"Not what I expected but, the price was right, I seen the pictures, bought it and sent UPS to bring it to me so I could take a look at it"

He looked inside the cockpit and walked around it a couple times. He asked me if i would start it and he could hear it run, so i did. I took the hood off when I started it, but he just stood back and looked it. Then he asked ME to drive it up on the trailer for him!

I hope you showed him the blinker fluid levels were full and that you only use fresh air in the tires.;)

I'm no genius, but i would say this guy's not, i'd say it starts runs, moves, and is pink, i'd say lets go run it and trash it, its all good
