Firecracker 5 Crown Speedweek Bigger and Better in 2005!
COLUMBUS, MS- The 2nd annual Brown Engineering Firecracker 5 Crown Late Model Series will return to action over the 4th of July holiday weekend. A five race swing through the south will see Super Late Model competitors compete five nights in a row with $2,000 to win and $200 to start 40-lap main events taking place each evening. The weekend will offer over $10,000 possible to win plus a points fund for the top five drivers after all five races are complete. As an added driver friendly twist, drivers will count only their four best finishes toward the championship. This format will allow the ability for a driver to miss a race and still be able to compete along with allowing a driver that runs all five events to drop his worst finish. Robert Brown of Brown Engineering in Aberdeen, Mississippi is back on as a title sponsor for the highly anticipated campaign. Last year’s series saw Jay Brinkley of Shelbyville, Tennessee take the championship over David Gentry along with $1,350 in point’s money for the champion. Completing the top five in points were Steve Russell, Clint Hardin, and Anthony Burroughs. The series averaged a very respectable and competitive 31 Super Late Models per event last year.
Once again the events are a result of planning and the cooperation of area promoters as the five race swing will begin on Thursday night June 30th at Duck River Speedway in Wheel, Tennessee then on Friday night July 1st at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, Alabama then move down to Johnny Stokes’ Columbus Speedway on Saturday night July 2nd. Action will then move a few miles west across the Tennessee Tombigbee River to the Magnolia Motor Speedway for a Sunday night special. The speedweek activities conclude Monday night at Pine Ridge Speedway in Baldwyn, Mississippi which is just about 15 minutes north of Tupelo where the series champion could be determined.
