Although the CMS race season came to a close only two months ago, track owners and promoters Earl and Susan Walls have already focused their attention on next year’s schedule. In what is sure to be one of the premier racing events of the 2008 season, CMS officially announces its richest payout in track history with a $5,000-to-win ‘Mighty’ Modified special feature event! Fans and drivers alike will want to mark their calendars for Friday, July 4th and Saturday July 5th, yes that’s right, a two-day weekend racing extravaganza at one of the most competitive tracks throughout the entire Midwest! Not only does this historic weekend of racing feature big money for the Modifieds, the track’s Street Stocks will also have more cash on the line as they will compete in a special feature event for $1,500-to-win, the largest-ever Street Stock payout in the track’s history. ULMA Late Models and B-Modifieds will also be on the racing program throughout this weekend of racing action. The annual Independence Day weekend Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl is already one of the biggest races in the local area and with this formal announcement this race is sure to be one of the most highly anticipated events in 2008. At press time the format of the event was being finalized and further details as well as pre-entry information will be released in the coming months.

Several other big events also dot the CMS schedule for the coming year. Everything kicks off at the speedway with three practice sessions set for the month of April taking place in the day time on the 5th and 12th with an evening practice set for the 19th. Opening night and the start of the championship point season is set for Saturday, April 26th. Tradition holds true with the first of three big-money race nights for the Modifieds taking place on May 24th when one lucky driver will go home with a $2,000 pay check for winning a special 40-lap feature event. One change to the schedule from year’s past is the annual late model special, which will be held on June 21st. Central Missouri Speedway’s late models will compete exclusively under ULMA rules for 2008 and if last season’s comeback year for weekly late model racing is any indication of this year, late model fans are in for a real treat as drivers set their sights on two-time and defending CMS track champion and current and defending ULMA points champion, Brett Rollert in hopes of putting an end to his two-year reign at the track. B-Modifieds will take the spotlight for a special race event on July 26th with additional purse money for this still-growing division. Last year the B-Modifieds saw tremendous car counts and next year is shaping up to be a banner year with even more drivers expected to compete for the track championship. The ever-popular Kids’ Night at the races will take place on August 9th, just two weeks before the final big-money Modified special on August 30th, this time paying $3,000 to the feature winner! The season comes to a close September 6th when the track will crown its division champions and cap off another great year of racing at the CMS high banks. The complete CMS schedule can be viewed by visiting the track’s official Website at www.centralmissourispeedway.net. Stay tuned to the CMS Website and further press releases for more exciting news leading up to the kickoff of the 2008 season.

Last season a total of 246 drivers competed at the track over 20 weeks of competition. A total of 91 ‘Mighty’ Modifieds, 46 ULMA Late Models, 54 Street Stocks and 55 B-Modified drivers made up the overall total number of competitors. There were 372 total races contested. Of those, 265 were heat races with 91 different winners; 25 total “B” features with 22 different winners; and 80 feature events, with 30 different winners! All track statistics are provided courtesy of Track Statistician, Glyda Jaeger. The 2008 registration meeting will be held on Saturday, January 19th starting at 9 a.m. at the ABC Building on the grounds of Grover Park in Warrensburg, Missouri. Many familiar faces will again return to CMS to compete at the high-banked track in some of the most fiercely competitive races anywhere in the country.

Recently, CMS announced that Quick-Change Rear Ends will be allowed for competition in the ‘Mighty’ Modified division. For complete rules for the Modifieds, ULMA Late Models, Street Stocks and B-Modifieds visit the track’s Website. Last year many improvements were made to the CMS facilities and 2008 will be no exception as various improvements continue during the off season. Twenty more loads of dirt have been added to the racing surface and worked into the track in order to improve race conditions. Also, fans in the stands will notice a big difference as the back straightaway old wooden bleachers are currently being replaced with new bleachers for next year.
