EAST BAY RACEWAY PARK
95 cars signed in for tech for Night #5 of the 30th Annual WINTERNATIONALS at the East Bay Raceway Park under sunny skies and a beautiful Florida February day!
The story thus far for the LUCAS OIL Dirt Late Model Series speedweeks events has been consistency by a handful of drivers. That consistency finds those drivers atop the leader board for the DART WINTERNATIONALS Point Fund, a culmination of many fine sponsors who banded together to provide a point fund for the Speedweeks events. The winner of the DART Fund will recieve $5,000 in cash as well as additional payouts by virtue of product certificates. The top 10 in the final tally for the week will all recieve cash awards as well as product certificates from many of the sponsors. Those drivers finishing in 11th - 20th position will recieve product certificates as well.
As the cars rolled onto the track for the $10,000 to win 50 Lap A-Main event, the list of drivers who had qualified for every A-Main had been reduced to 5 drivers, Earl Pearson, Matt Miller, Shannon Babb, Dennis Erb, Jr. and Donnie Moran.
The evenings A-Main would by far be the best race of the week, as not a fan in the place was sitting on the last lap. Steve Francis, who has struggled all week, looked like he was going to finish the night with a runner up position to the Real Deal Don O'Neal who had been in command most of the event. As the duo led the field into turns 3 and 4, Francis took a last shot effort and drove to the high side with a move that would stick, and managed to roll past O'Neal to steal the victory away from him at the flag stand.
Francis was driving ther Larry Moring owned Freeport Recycling Center, MDI Environmental Services, Valvoline, Hoosier Racing Tire, Gary Stanton MOPAR powered Rocket Chassis #15.
