We are truly grateful to all the fans, race teams and track crew who showed their support Friday for the second annual Jim Hall Memorial Race at Benton (Mo.) Raceway Park.
Despite the rain and late hour, several hundred fans and dozens of great racers from seven states made it an exciting and fun night. We ended up with a field of 31 modifieds, 28 sprints and 17 crate late models.
In modifieds, Jeff Hall of Charleston became the fourth and final feature race leader and won the $2,000 event. It was shortened to 17 laps because of the 30-minute time limit rule. Chris Hall was second. Both Chris and Jeff are grandsons of the late Jim Hall. Todd Hall, another of Jim's grandsons, was among the early race leaders.
Matt Dotson and Chad Kinder also led early but didn't finish.
In crate late models, Tait Davenport of Paducah, Ky., pitted for a new tire on the opening lap, then charged from the rear to take the lead from Colby Vanderbergh on the 33rd and final lap to win the $3,000 race.
In sprints, Jerrod Hull of Sikeston led all 33 laps and mastered lapped traffic to win the $5,000 event. Tommy Worley Jr. came away from a battle to take second over Brad Loyet.
Race bonuses were provided by Team EERC and Liquid Nitro, with a fireworks show provided by Boomland.
