River City Rascals Name Bob Wente as Executive Director

The River City Rascals announced today Bob Wente as the Executive Director in charge of baseball operations. Wente, will be the first person to hold this position that has not existed in the franchise’s 7 year history. Essentially, Bob’s responsibility is to oversee all front office activities for the Rascals.

Before joining the Rascals, Wente owned and operated the Tri City Speedway for 12 years in Granite City, Illinois. He recently sold the NASCAR approved dirt raceway to Gordon and Kevin Gundaker. “Motor Sports has given me the background to efficiently manage a professional sports facility,” said Wente. “I look forward to the challenge of leading the River City Rascals organization to another Frontier League Organization of the Year Award.” The Rascals organization earned the award in 2000 and 2001.

Thursday January 27, 2005 a press conference will be held.

May-be it is because of ALL the T-shirts and hats he SOLD at Springfield at the swapmeet.........

I want to wish Bob good luck in his new adventure. Kinda funny, those who are considered the movers and shakers in the St Louis sporting community recognize his talents, while those who benefitted most from his guidance (i.e. a large portion of the St Louis racing community) either took him for granted or outright disrespected him. Those who continue to dog him in his new venture must be incredibly petty and miserable people.

doug... i wish bobby well in his new venture. i can't say with reasonable certainty that when he bought tcs 12 or so years ago, it kept the property a racetrack, and not a dreaded strip mall, or industrial park; but he may have saved it. i dunno. if he did, then we all are grateful. but it's no secret that some of his methods/decisions over that time were less than 'racer friendly'. alot of criticism came his way, quite a bit of it justified. i think you would even agree; i dunno. alot of what he did was well recieved by the racers;it wouldn't be fair without saying that as well. i am not bashing bobby... he did what he had to do. thanks to him and his staff for alot of hard work.again, good luck to him in his new deal. art.

Doug,

I have to agree with you! And I can also add that Bobby was always fair with me, my wife and daughter while working for him. I think everyone knows, but mayby many don't realize, you can't please everyone everytime, all the time.

You also have to remember that Bobby's venture into TCS was a business, not a hobby or sport. I doubt if those who raced at TCS were doing it as a living, although any money they took home was welcomed! I know that if it wasn't for the P/T job at TCS, I wouldn't have been able to take the vacation I did a couple of years ago and with my wife out of work for almost a year, the extra cash sure came in handy!

I enojy hanging out with everyone at TCS. Racing is somehing I've always wanted to do but because it takes so much money and time, I enjoy watch and getting paid for it. Now if marriage could only be like that!

You guys and gals have always been great and kind to me and if there's anything, within in reason of course, I can do for you, please let me know. See everyone at the track in April.
