Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 19, 2014) – Brendon Gemmill picked off his second Dodge City Raceway Park triumph of the year by posting a $1,200 victory in Saturday night’s Second Annual Modified Stampede atop the 3/8-mile clay oval.

The Ponca City, OK, native raced past his father Troy Gemmill 13 rounds into the 30-lapper before holding off Colorado’s Eddie Belec over the closing circuits for his second consecutive DCRP score.

“I really didn’t feel comfortable out there, it was the first time we’ve had this car out this year,” Gemmill commented in victory lane. “Sometimes the fastest car doesn’t win, this is one of those times.”

While Gemmill scored IMCA Modified honors, other winners on the night included Nate Ginest in IMCA Sport Modifieds, Perry Misner in IMCA Stock Cars, Matt O’Hair in Thunder Cars and Jarett Lunow in Hornets.

Troy Gemmill gunned into the lead at the outset of the Modified Stampede main event from his front row outside starting position with Brendon Gemmill chasing from the third starting position.

Brendon moved in to challenge after eight laps before finally slipping underneath Troy for the lead entering turn one on the 13[sup]th[/sup] lap. With the father-son Gemmill duo out front, 11[sup]th[/sup]-starter Belec and 10[sup]th[/sup]-starter Scott Drake moved to third and fourth by the 11[sup]th[/sup] lap and made it four-way race for the point in short order.

Belec finally made his way around T. Gemmill on the 20[sup]th[/sup] round and pulled alongside B. Gemmill in a battle for the lead before a caution flew for Mike Lunow with 23 laps in the books.

Gemmill took off on the restart and kept Belec several car-lengths back the rest of the way with T. Gemmill outlasting Drake for the show position. Jeff Hunter raced from 14[sup]th[/sup] to round out the top five with 15[sup]th[/sup]-starter Mike Petersilie, 16[sup]th[/sup]-starter Cole Traugott, Beau Davis, 17[sup]th[/sup]-starter Randy Wilson and 19[sup]th[/sup]-starter Cale Osborn in the top ten.

Great Bend’s Nate Ginest raced into the lead six rounds into the 20-lap IMCA Sport Modified main event and went on to his first DCRP score of the year.

While Ginest worked forward from the fifth starting position, Tristan Barton led the way from the front row outside ahead of Kamren Gruber with Ginest up to third by the fifth lap. Ginest powered around both Gruber and Barton on the sixth round and never looked back.

Ginest opened up a full straightaway lead by the time a caution flew after 15 laps and then nearly re-established the same advantage in the final handful of circuits.

Ginest took the checkered flag comfortably ahead of Barton, while Toby Witthuhn took third when Gruber broke with five laps to go and held it the rest of the way. A last-lap skirmish sent points leader Jeff Kaup from fourth to 16[sup]th[/sup] with Daniel Gottschalk fourth and Austin Carter in fifth.

In the 12-lap IMCA Stock Car feature, Perry Misner worked the upper portion of the track to race from eighth to third behind Randy Dowell and Angel Munoz on the opening round.

Misner and Munoz split Dowell for the top spot going down the frontstretch on the sixth lap and were poised to battle it out, only to have Munoz roll to a stop in turn one with a cut right front tire after seven laps.

Misner kept his chasers a handful of car-lengths back the rest of the way for his fourth DCRP win of the year with Michael Pepper making his way past Dowell for second with the white flag in sight. Dusty Witthuhn and Reagan Sellard filled out the top five.

Matt O’Hair cashed in on Sonny O’Hair’s misfortune to capture his first 12-lap Thunder Car feature win of the year.

Sonny O’Hair gunned into the lead at the outset and held a sizable lead when his car lost power exiting turn four on the tenth circuit. Laverne, Oklahoma’s Matt O’Hair pounced on the opportunity and raced on to the checkered flag ahead of Cody Davis with Dan Rogers claiming third.

Dodge City’s Jarett Lunow stayed perfect in Hornet action, taking command on the second round and charging on to his sixth win of the year ahead of Brandon Bogner and Andy Copeland.

Dodge City Raceway Park kicks off the 10-day long Dodge City Days Festival on Friday night, July 25, with First Responder night featuring URSS Sprint Cars along with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Thunder Cars.
