Gerstner & Son Motorsports Statement

I'm not in defense of anyone here but you are off a little king eddy, a tire program is a term. That could just be the way someone goes about cleaning their tires, grinding, siping and grooving. All legal. Now I agree that cleaning your tires with anything but water then it could be considered chemically alteration, but a tire program doesn't mean the guy is using prep, soap, or anything in between. It's just a term widely used.

Well, here's the quote, taken from their statement: "In addition to the tire sample, we offered samples of the products that are used in our tire program which DIRTcar refused." Their words, not mine.

Not sure how you could offer samples of products for siping, grinding, or grooving. Which leads anyone with any common sense to believe the "products" in their tire program would mean some type of chemical, or product containing a chemical. If those "products" were just for washing, didn't you just agree that washing with anything but water was altering?

So just how do you consider what I said "a little off"?

I guess the term "tire program" could also mean purchasing your tires from the same company Bloomquist uses. That way you could truthfully issue a statment that says "we do not purchase chemicals".

King, I appreciate your concern for my health, but my house is on city water. The spigot by my shop is on the well. And the only water I drink out in the shop is cold filtered and brewed with hops and barley so I think I will be ok, but thanks anyway.

I do have another problem though. I think that I ran over some dog poo after I washed the car. Can somebody let me know if I will fail the sniffer test now? And can I request who I would like to sniff my tire?

For those who can't tell, that was an attempt at a little humor.

As I stated very clearly before, I was exaggerating about the well water, but was completely intentional in bringing up the issue. To what extent does a non-cheater need to protect his tires from any foreign chemicals to ensure that they don't get his or her good name dragged through the mud? Several very real concerns have been brought up by people in this and a few other threads: cleaners, mud off, fluid spills on the track, etc. Nobody will care what I want, but I would like to see someone who actually knows how the testing procedure works get on here and explain what will get a person busted and what won't. That way it will put a lot of the honest racers' concerns at ease.

After all of this hoop-la, I am curious to see what happens next time someone blows a motor and lays oil down on the track. How much trouble do you think the officials are going to have getting drivers to run in the mess.

I know perfectly well what will get you caught, if you want help I am more than willing to share that. I can't on this open forum because of the new rules set for me, and seems only me. I'm trying to sell you anything at all, but am willing to help you understand if you like. You can PM or call whichever you like.

I do not know for sure, but I honestly do not believe that mild soaps, oil, anitfreeze, etc. will get you busted on the lab test. But (IMO) if you are intentionally letting Dawn Detergent (which is fairly harsh) or any other product sit on your tires for hours at a time, or if you are scrubbing it in with a wire brush, that is treating a tire and not merely cleaning it. At that point (IMO) you are cheating. I don't know if the lab tests can distinguish the difference between "cleaning" or "treating" so a zero tolerance policy may be the only alternative for some of the products in question.

I have exchanged a couple of respectful and friendly PM's with someone (who I will keep annonymous) who tells me we would all be shocked to hear what Gerstner/Kloos was using to "clean" their tires with, and what product they got busted for. (He did not tell me, and I did not ask what the product was) Jimmy D. stated somewhere that the lab reports are issued to the parties tested, and they contain a listing of every substance/chemical found on the tire. If this is the case (and I have no reason to believe it isn't) I would be interested to see the report issued to Gerstner. I think everyone would. And if indeed they got busted for soap or something similar, I would publish that report in its entirety to defend myself and possibly restore some honor. As things sit right now, everyone believes they were purchasing or prepping tires.

I have been pretty harsh with my posts and I admit (and was told) some are bordering on going overboard. Sorry, but as I have stated before, I do put a lot of sweat, effort and money into a racing program that I am very passionate and care deeply about. And if I or the driver I sponsor is getting cheated, I'm damn well gonna mouth off about it.

dont clean tires with simple green it will make the sniffer go off just FYI, I still like the hawaiian shirt posse and i still think its cool they won a summernationals race wether they cleaned there tires with the wrong stuff or not he still got up on the wheel and got it done
