Being that i am bound to the couch i have too much time on my hands. I am needing to put a new winch in my trailer before racing starts. What is a good winch? It is a sportsman car that weighs 3150 lbs and it is pulling it into a enclosed with ramp overs. I got a winch now but it goes slow as a snail and all around junk. What size, what brand, where to look at them? Any help would be great. Thank you all in advance.

Tom

We got a good one from Lowes. We have a crate late, in an enclosed trailer and it does great. I believe that it was around $300.

I was really hoping that was a spelling mistake and we were going to talk about wenches!

Thats what I thought!!!!!
Just trying to keep an eye on Tommy while you are at work..!!! LOL

So now do you get it Tommy...

I bought ours back in 2002, so things have changed a bit, but I was looking for one that would pull a wrecked 3000lb late model into the trailer, so it needed to be powerful (easy to find), compact(not so easy), and affordable. Most of the git-r-dun bumper-mount types were too darn big, and the small ATV ones were lacking in beans. I settled on a 3500lb S-Series Superwinch from Jeg's, for about $300. I saw the whole S-series line used the same gearbox, so the lower rated models should be pretty durable, and it's worked fine so far. I would highly recommend the wireless controller, or at least a winch that can accept it in the future. Beware the ebay "low price at all cost" imports.

Harbor Freight in St Louis has a good buy on wenches.I have 2 of the 10,000 lb. that are great--they cost 399.00 each they also have a 5500 lb that would work great for you,it is 269.00--their phone is listed----jim--
