Greg King won his third Modified Feature of the year at the Malden Speedway Friday night. Joining King in victory lane were Billy James with his eight Late Model win of the year, Claudie Cook in Hobby Stock, Jeff Beeson won the Street Stock feature, Jim Eubanks took the E-Mods, and the team of Tim and Kenny Doublin won the Cruiser feature.

Greg King topped 21 challengers to take the Modified checkered flag Friday night. The race had trouble getting started, as there were four caution flags before two laps were finished. It looked like a race of attrition as seven of the 22 starters were eliminated by damage to their cars. No one was seriously injured in the melee. Robert Powers grabbed the lead from the pole but surrendered it on a lap two restart when he failed to come to speed as the green flag was waved. Powers fell to third and later that lap spun in turn four collecting several cars. Top challengers, Robby Arnold, Larry Hull, and Shannon Brack saw their night of racing end with the collision.
Brad Buck took over the lead with Mike Francis and King right in tow.
Francis pulled even with Buck on lap five and raced side by side with the
leader for a full lap before taking the lead. A lap later, King dove under
Buck coming out of turn two to take over second place. Powers had already moved through the field to fourth place, but that was as close as he would get. Francis led the race until lap 15 when King again used a dive low out of turn two to grab the lead.

King pulled away from that point and the victory was his. Francis held on for second. Buck took third followed by Powers. Dustin Billingsley picked up his first top five finish of the year in fifth. Heat winners were Powers, Buck, and Josh Boaz from Bartlett TN, who made a good showing in his first trip to the speedway.

For the fifth straight week, one of the two Morrisett 54 cars won the Hobby Stock feature. This week was Claudie Cook's turn to shine, as he picked up his sixth win of the year, his fifth during the point's season. Cook got a good jump at the start of the race, and began to pull away from the field.
After 10 laps, Cook led by a full three seconds, but a lap 13 caution brought him back to the field for a two lap dash to the finish. Cook held his lead on the restart, but had one last challenge to face. Tim Winchester took over second from Greg Sparks in turn two following the restart. The most daring move of the night was made by Doug Moore as he came flying through turns three and four with one lap to go, and passed three cars to move into second spot. Moore pulled even with Cook on the back straight of the final lap, but Cook held on through the final curves to win. Winchester came in third followed by Greg Sparks and Tony Anglin. Heat winners were Cook and Anglin.

Jeff Beeson won his third Street Stock feature in the last four weeks.
Beeson was the third Don Robinson powered car to win on the night, King and James the others. The race opened with Johnny Hoaurt grabbing the lead and threatening to run away and hide. On the fourth lap, Houart suffered major mechanical problems and rolled to a stop under the flag stand to end his night of racing. Beeson inherited the lead and kept it the rest of the way.
Coot Wilson and Paul Reeder put on quite a show as they traded the second spot back and fourth through the middle part of the race. Reeder settled into the position and closed to Beeson's bumper by lap 10, but that was as close as he would get. Wilson held on for third. Aaron Darby and Chris Kelley rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Beeson, Houart, and Mike Massie.

Jim Eubanks picked up his second E-Mod win of the year. The race opened with Jeff Jarrell out front, but he suffered a spin on lap four and fell back to third. Eubanks took over the top spot following Jarrell's spin. Jarrell made a daring move on the restart following a lap seven caution as he came around the outside of Jamie Daughhotee and then dove under Eubanks for the lead, but a caution flag erased his move. Eubanks had one more challenge to withstand as Jarrell pulled even on lap nine, but once again spun and this time fell to fourth before he righted himself. Todd Gibbs moved up late to take second, his best finish of the year. Point's leader Tim Prine took third. Jarrell won the heat race.
