Group Qualifing

Lets have some opinions on group qualifing for Late Models, Mods and Crates.
 
Are you talking about group qualifying vs. one car at a time or letting all three of these classes qualify? The group qualifying seems to work real well allowing the time trials to get ran much faster. I think about all of the local tracks have went to pill draw for their weekly shows. Qualifying all three classes would probably put too much wear on the track and cause one lane racing in the feature. At least that's what I always heard.
 
I think it wears on the track also... Do the pill draw and race your way in or do it in hotlaps!!! Yes it s-cks getting a fast car from the back through a bunch of junk cars,but thats racing!!!
 
Group qualifying would be ok as long as there is little or no possibility of one car overtaking another.
It just isn't fair to either get hung up behind a slower car or run over by an over agressive hot dog while trying to qualify.
 
Passing point formats provide much better racing and are not near as boring (watching time trials is worse than watching paint dry).

you now that s-cks...but anyway maybe if its done in hotlaps we need to get a plan together to do it that way!!!
 
I'm all for group qualifying. If you do it during hot laps it's not any extra laps on the track and people are already watching that. Only downside is that the tracks would have to have transponders to do group qualifying.
 
For a normal weekly show i say the normal pill draw is still the way to go. I know it ****s to get tied up with a not so good car or cars if you have to start in the back of a heat bc of a bad pill draw. But that it what makes racing what it is. I would much rather earn my good run by racing for it rather than starting on the front row and being out for a sunday cruise. Sometimes you will get caught up in a mess but thats racing. I really like the passing points format. Thats something that alot of tracks should take up. If i were a fan in the stands i would much rather see a great driver work there way to the front rather than watching them start in the front every week and seeing the same thing week in and week out. JMO but i say stick to the pill draw and look into doing passing points.
 
When timing in by transponder during hot laps, all you have to do is spread out on the track, and you dont have to worryas much about running up on a slower car..

That happens all the time...I think you have to have something in place or it could be a mess. We all know who the fast guys are and the junk ones also lol.
 
Pill draws & passing points helps us sell parts. BUT **** with today's economy & car counts, I would rather see more cars & less carnage. Group qualifying definitely helps sort out the cars, makes the show run faster & reduces torn up race cars. Steve
 
I would say group qualifying AND passing points. group qualify the cars, 6-7 at a time, NOT 3 or 4 to save time. Line the fast cars in the BACK, slow cars in the FRONT, and line the feature up by passing points. that would give the slow cars a maybe hang on to win a heat, give the fast cars a chance to accumulate passing points, and put on a show for the fans.
 
You would still need the transponders,correct? Great Idea,I Agree!

$1000 to win shows or more shows should defiantly have group qualifing. Weekly I think ur promoter will b afraid of losing car count do to under budgeted teams having less of that pill draw chance in making the show. Some of the best racing I've seen has bn whn the track group qualifies or single car weather it b late model,mods or crates. It went faster and more exciting racing.Just a racer opinion.
