Does anyone around the local area where a Hans or a Defender head restraint? Just wandering.

I have a Defender.....It works well!I have had one really hard crash and didn't even have one sore muscle or any aches or pains. the video is on u tube under zimmerlymotorsports. I would recommend the Defender but I have never used the Hans.

I use the Hans and have had a couple good licks without any neck pain. I believe the Defender is a little cheaper if you're looking to buy one.
Quite a few guys have these now.
Both Miners, Chris Fisher, Alan Conner, Blake Jost, Jason Crump, Cody Conner are some I know of. Very much worth the money!!!

I have a HANS Device... I got it two years ago after I got hurt in a wreck. Last year I had 2 wild rides where my car went airborne, and I got out of the car just a little sore but nothing compared to what it could of been... They are a little expensive but it’s worth every penny... I will not get in a race car without one on

Brian Diveley has worn a hans for several years now and is very happy with it.He had a d cell before the hans and the hans has much better movement. He has taken some pretty hard hits before and after he started wearing one and says you cant believe the difference it makes how you feel the next day.

I wear a Hans, have for a few yrs, wouldnt race without it. Cant put a price on your life.

I am really familiar with both the Hans and the Defender. Both are good products, but the Defender is less likely to come off in a side impact. For best results with either of these devices you should use a 2 inch shoulder harness versus the 3 inch shoulder harness. The 2 inch belts will grip either head restraint better. I have a Defender at the shop in Highland if you want to take a look at one.

Thanks guys,,I just wanted to know about how many people use them. My son uses a Defender and likes it very much.. Both have good points and should be worn by all.

Hooker Harness

I have no affiliation with Hooker Harness the company or the above poster

On a side note:
The Hooker Harness system is invaluable in tight confines of a sprint or midget where limited space
and a full containment seat make it nearly impossible to get enough leverage for a driver to tighten the
lap belt. The ratchet tightener is easily reached to snug the lap belt which seems to loosen while idling
around lining up before the race even starts. This is after pulling the belts tight enough to make the
driver's eyes bug out. I imagine that the safety of any dirt track driver will benefit.

With the Defender, can you turn your head much like the Hans with the sliding tether? I have a Hutchens and have very little ability to turn my head when it is adjusted as instructed. I would not go on the track without at least the Hutchens, but am looking at upgrading.

I just bought a micro sprint and a I will be running a Defender device. From the reading I have done they have better side impact ratings. As far as comfort I have had both on my shoulders and the Hans felt slightly more uncomfortable for some reason. The other cool thing about the defender is the angle is adjustable so you can use it in multiple vehicle types if need be.

As far as the belts I just pruchased Crow Enterprises belts that taper down around where a neck restraint goes so they do not slip off. Plus the defender has a lip that the belts sit on so they are less likely to come off. I can't really compare the 2 but from the research I have done this is what I decided to go with. I will have more of an opinion later this season.

Here's the belts: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Crow-2-Inch-Hans-Type-Harness,48987.html

The loosening that you are feeling is caused by you settling further into the seat and seat padding. You were probably tight wen you left the pit stall but before the race starts you feel loose. With the ratching belts you can put yourself tight enough into the seat that you are already settled into the seat and you will stay tight throughout the race.

Both the Hans and the Defender now utilize the sliding tether. You will be able to turn your head better with either device versus the original style Hutches device.

I use the defender (as stated in Crashes post) I will not get in the car without it after a crash last year. I was doing double duty in the DLM and the pro4. I got out of the LM and went to race the feature in the pro 4, my brother brought the defender over to the car and told me to put it on. I said " Its only the pro4" and 6 laps later I hit the infield wall and destroyed the car. I have never been so sore. So from that moment on I will not strap in to any racecar without it. Your life and well being are worth the money.
